R. Smith, field agent in poultry from the Kentucky State College of Ag riculture. Of these throe factors, proper feeding ia perhaps the most important. Chicks may be hatched from healthy vigorous stock and carefully brooded, but unless they receive a balanced feed they will not make the proper growth. The first feed should not be given to the young chicks until they are 48 hours old, after which they may be given some sour skim milk or butter milk. Daring the first week a good grain. mixture which may be given them is made up of 20 pounds of fine cracked corn, 20 pounds of wheat and 20 pounds of steel cut onts. The mixture is best fed five or six times each dav in amounts that the chicks will clean up in about fifteen min uses. Overfeeding should be careful ly guarded against, according to Mr. Smith. second to the twelfth 'ring chicks may be fed in mixture two or three v together with a mash open hopper and milk as the week-old which has given good results at the poultry farm of the state college is made up of 20 pounds of bran, 20 pounds of shorts, 20 pounds of corn meal, 8 pounds of bone meal, 12 pounds of sifted meat scraps and one and one half pounds of charcoal. During this period the chicks should receive sprouted oats or some form of green feed along with a good supply of grit, which should be kept in a hopper. If milk is fed the meat scrap may he omitted from the mash. PRODUCE REVIEW Starkeling of larger supplies of poultry has caused general declines in price in both producing and con suming centers. It is believed that in sympathy with the decline in other foodstuffs, the gneral average price will continue lower. The eg market j remained fairly steady during the week, with a good demand for current supplies. A large reserve stock is piling up in storage, the United States Department of Agriculture reporting stocks, of 679,516 cases in Chicago, New York, Boston and Philadelphia on March 30, 1021. On the corresponding date last year there were 4,319 cases in storage. It is estimated that the total fig ures for the United States will show over 1,000,000 cases stored April lh 1921, "as compared with 121,733 cases on the same date in 1920. There was little change in butter prices," although the arrival of 2)000,000 pounds of Danish butter in the early part of the week brought about a temporary depression. Some increase has taken place in butter production but there is a good con sumer demand which i3 absorbing the make about as rapidly as it is offered. For Printing, See The Advocate. Provide Creep For Young Pigs When pigs are two or three weeks old a creep should be built for them where they may bo fed without being molested by their mother, according to recommendations made by the animal husbandry department of the Kentucky State College of Agricul ture. At this age the young animals may profitably be fed some skim milk or middling slop with a few grains o corn thrown into the feed trough, in order to teach them to eat grain. 1 m For Printing, See The Advocate.
