Editor Roundabout:
Only a few days since there were throe
candidates for Representative ot Frmikiin
county Mr. Julian, the regular Democratic
nominee, Mr. Browner, independent, and
Mr. Lewis, the regular Republican nominee
But on Saturday Mr. Lewis withdrew
his name t n called meeting of the
Republican County Committee, and now we
have only two candidates.
Mr. Itrawncr's friends boldly proclnim
that they caused Mr. Levvm' mime to
the purpose of yittiny the nmw
nnd Republican votes for Drawn er, ami thinly,
if possible, defeat the rryu'ar Demon atic
tiec. In other words, this i an open combination
between Mr. Biawner and the
negroes of Frankfort (together with such
white Republicans as will follow the motley
crew) to defent the Democratic nomine', or
reduce the Democratic majority in Franklin
county! !
Now then, fellow Democrats, will you
submit to this? Will you aid Mr.
a professed Demociat, in this attempted
trick; this conspiracy with the woit poition
ol the Republican party? A vote for Mr.
Biawner is a vote against tlie Democratic
ticket; a vote for Mr. Biawner is a vole
directly in the. inteiest of the Republican
party.
Such a combination might win in
counties; it cannot win in Franklin. If Mr.
Biawner desiied the suppuit of good
why did he not goiutoilie Democratic
primary election and abide it- decision?
Because he expected aid and comfort Irom
the Republicans.
1 1 the late candidates for the office of
Sheiiff' had done as Mr. Browner i- now
doing we should have either Mr. Gainer ot
Mr Lucas or Con. Collins still running for
Sheriff' with the hope of being elected by
the negro and Reuublican voteot tiie county.
Hut these gents nre too good Democrats to
ever think ol such a couise. Fie upon any
Democrat who will suffer himself to be used
as a tool in this manner! I
We need our full strength at this election,
especially because next year is the gieat
N'ltional contest. Then, fellow citizens,
Btand to your colors; go to the polls, and
shame be to him who aids the enemy.
Yours truly,
DEMOCRAT.
