welcome and the genuine enthusiasm

parations for the great event the mem
bers of post J have not forgotten to
look after the welfaro of then guests
in the minutest details Beginning ear
ly this morning every train reaching
the city will bo met upon Its arrival
at tho Union deput by a committee
who will escort tho visitors to their
homes and otherwise mako them feel
bo thoroughly at home that they enter
at once upon the enjoyments of the
occasion
Tho city council voted them the free
dom of the city Tuesday night and
they arc taking advantage of It with
good taste and Judgment The brew
ery and other places of social delight
will be visited nnd everybody will bo
cheered and none Inebriated for If
there Is any one who knows how to
do a good town thoroughly It Is the
drummer All parts of the city will
be visited la the course of the con
vention and the lne points of Tort
Worth will receive the most thorough
and business like Inspection they have
ever had greatly to the advantage of
tho city as the drummers Journey

The discussions of the convention

sideration which can scacely be antici

street reveals not only richness and
profusion but nn exceedingly good se

the variety of ornamentation which

stretched across tho street in front or
the two principal hotels the Worth and
the Delaware The national flag Is
everywhere on every side ns It alwais
Is In Tort Worth on festive occasions
for Tort Worth Is nothing if not
patriotic lied white and blue are eng
wrapped In thick folds about the store
fronts and around the awning posts
But all this Is interspersed with other
bright colors so that there Is nothing
like monotony There Is a combination
of brightness freshness and origi
nality about the decorations which
make altogether very pleasing effect
Houston street Is also beautifully deco
rated so that the drummers will be
cheered nt every step while marching
In procession to the city hall to the
opening of the convention w Ith re
freshing evidences that thtlr presence
Is known In Tort Worth and throughly
appreciated
The committees who have had charge
of the preparations for this convention
havo performed theli work In a thor
ough manner and are therefore the re
cipients of many compliments and
much grateful praise from the travel
ers and from tho citizens of Port Worth
for the creditable manner In which
the work of the convention has been
Inaugurated Mayor Paddock has ta
ken the lejd In this public spirited
task ably assisted by energetic and
painstaking citizens and all richly
deserve the praise which Is being so
freely bestowed up them now that
the results of their untiring efforts is

Messrs John J Knight president
and S Douxthy secretary of the
Texas division were seen soon after
they arrived from Dallas last night
tho farmer at the Hotel Delaware and
the Utter at the Hotel Worth Both
were confident that they were would
be a good meeting and cxpectel to see
a good atten lance Mr Knight Im
parted the Information that there had
been no applications for amendments
to the constitution fat this convention
and eald that since there had been no
notice of any proposed change given
nothing of the kind could now be done
without unanimous consent
There was to have been a meeting of
the board of directors at the Hotel
Worth last night but oj a quorum
was not obtained the meeting was
postponed until this morning It will
probably be held at an early hour In
order that Its work may be finished
before the opening of the convention
Following the regular rotation ac
cording to custom the post headquar
ters will go this time from Dallas to
Austin the former being Post D and
Austin Post F It will be four > ears
before Post 3 of Fort Worth Is reached
Houston has been mentioned ns the
place where the next convention will
probably be hold
Mr Oeorgo A Hill chairman of tho
railroad committee Is highly gratified
at having secured very good rates for
members of the association from points
in Texas to Sin Antonio during the
National convention The maximum
rate from points In Texn to ban Au
tonla will be he dollars Arrange
ments have also been made for an ex
cursion to Monterey with a maximum
rate of 10 from points In Texas

with much interest the transformation

when a Philadelphia firm Just sent a

matter Mr Jordan reached the con
