(Conunuuicated.) Mr. Alitor: I request of you the favor of insert ing the following statement in your paper,ns it will serve to put the public on their guard agonist sim ilar outrages. On Wcduesday night last, while I was quite un well and confined to my room, some person entered my Bar-room and took from the wall a painting, which I value far beyond its real worth, from its lwing the gift of a much esteemed friend now ab sent it. a distant land It was an Oil Painting representing an Oriental >. Scene of a group of two or three persons in Turk ish Costume in a reclining attitude, enclosed in n plain stained wood frame. .... As this is not the first time that similar depreda tions have been committed, and as I think it very ungenerous treatment towards otic who has always used every exertion to please the public, 1 would appeal to the generosity and sense of justice ol the one who took away the picture, whether in jest or otherwise, and request of him to leave it either at iny house or where I can obtain it. If any one should sec a picture answering to the above di.-crip i tion, they would confer a very great I'avor on me ' by letting me know where the above can be found. I cannot but believe tli.it should this meet the eye ? of the person, who took it away, that lie will act | the part of a gentleman and ail honest man, and te ^ store what can be of little value to him, but which I value very much; by so doing, he would lay me under obligations to him for rendering me justice.
