Oct 27 P It OS PECTUS FOR PUBLISHING A MONTHLY PAPER IN BALTIMORE, TO BE ALLED the cui/turist. On subjects connected with Agriculture, to include an Emigrants' Department, containing such in formation as may be useful to persons making a settlement in the West, or seeking new fields of agricultural enterprise. THE SUB8CRIDER proposes to issue a L monthly shed, in quarto form, of sixteen pa ges, on husbandry, pastoral affairs, and kindred subjects :—a portion of the paper to he occupied with notices geographical, statistical and historical of such portions of tin* Wcst fi.s will of most in (••rest to Western settlers, and also of portions of the South. Agriculture is the most ancient occupation of man. It is also the most useful, the most indepen dent, the happiest, the most healthy, the most pro fitable and the most honorable. But this is not all. Agriculture comprehends in itself more scienee, than any other occupation In the whole circle of human pursuits and industry. Geology, chemistry, vegetable physiology, all make a part of the thorough "knowledge of this most ex tensive and useful art. They are indeed but the beginnings of the vast field of knowledge contain ed within it. So that if a man can he a thorough agriculturist, he will be in the large sense of the word a learned man. Farmers however have been, to a great extent, opposed to wbat they called science, or hook-farm ing, from a mistaken idea that whatever was in print was merely speculative, and matter of theory. If it were so indeed, they would be right in con demning it. It is however a mistaken idea. Sci ence is the result of experience and practice. It is "the ripe harvest of fat ts, reaped not by one man in one field, but gathered by all the laborers through out all the harvest fields of the earth in year after year from the beginning. Every intelligent tanner likes to talkto hisnrigh nr, and draw advantage from his experience.— This cxprriencc is no less valuable for bcin"- de livered to him in print, by types, than if it should he given to him by his neighbor, by word of mouth. It is the same thing. Skill in the manual of hoeing and ploughing ran never make a. farmer. It makes only an apprentice in the art. Since the multiplication of agricultu ral papers and societies in this country, there hns been a great improvement In the state of agricul ture. It is designed to give jn thin paper all useful gen eral intelligence relating to rural affairs anti econ omy, whether of implements, storks, seed*, modes of culture.articles of cultivation, soils, or fertilizers; and such discoveries of science ns may assist, light en and make more profitable the hardy and hon orable toil of the farmer. A secondary object will be to give information to person* making settlement in the West ; from per sons! knowledge mostly so that they will be able to make Judicious selections, and proceed in the c> tablishingof their new homes to best advantage, and some description of the lands of Maryland and Virginia, with the inodes of renovating them. The price will be one dollar, invariably in ad vance. Agricultural nnd Emigration Societies, and oth ers Who subscribe for one hundred copicn or more will be supplied at #75 per h’fndrrJ Postmasters and country collectors are requested to act as agents. All such will he allowed 2f) per cent; and any person sending five dollars will have viz ropte*. Oct *9 WM. J. A. BRADFORD. THE PATENT GALVANIC RINGS, & X MAGNETIC FLUID.—This remarkable dis covery has received the universal approbation of the Medical Profession of Great Britain, and has been sufficiently long before the American public to give a fair trial of its power and efficacy. The PA f LN 1 GALV ANIC RINGS have Ihjou found to answer all the purposes for which ordinary Galvan ic Battery or Electric and Magnetic Machines are used, but arc without any of Uie injurious shocks which accompany tlie applications by those instru ments, and in many other respects are more sake and certain in accomplishing the desired object. The Galvanic Rings have been used with perfect success in all cases ol Rheumatism, acute or chron ic, applying to the head, face or limbs ; Gout, Tic Dolorcux. Toothache, Bronchitis, Vertigo, Nervous or Sick Headache, Indigestion, Paralysis, Palsy, Epilepsy, Fits, Cramp, Palpitation of the Heart,1 Apoplexy, StifTnessof Joints, Lutnbagi^Neuralgia, 1 General Debility, Deficiency of Nervous Energy, and all Nervous Disorders. In cases of confirmed Dyspepsia they have been successful. Their extra ordinary effects upon flic system must b« witnessed to be believed; and as a oert&in preventive for the above complaints they are equally to he recom mended. I ho Galvanic Rings are in every way perfectly harmless, and are sold at prices to be within the reach of all. Cristib’s Magnetic Fluid is used in connection with the Rings, to render their efficient action certain, and to direct the Gal vanic inllu-jncc to the particular pottions which ate affected. For numerous certificates of (he highest charac ter regarding the efficacy of the Galvanic Rings and Magnetic Fluid, reference is made to former advertisements, or they may be seen at the office.
