The offers are di rected to he forwarded to Ihc Treasury Department sealed, and are expected to he received before the instant. The contracts consequent on them will take effect from the 6th of January, 1846. No bids will be entertained from per.-ons not actually engaged in the business to which those offers re fer. The rations to be of good and wholesome quality to be approved by the Collector, and the different articles comprising the ration, to be delivered on tmard the Cutters in good and sufficient casks and vessels, to be provided by tile Contractor, and the contents thereof distinctly marked on each. It is understood that the Contractor will be bound it* upon reasonable notice, as often as may b required by the Captain of the Cutters, with the approbation of the Collector, (not exceeding upon an average one day in each week,) such Fresh Meat 1 and Fresh Vegetables as may be equivalent to the i corresponding parts of the ration allowed in the! The canvas and hammock stuff must all be of the length, width, weight, strength, and finish, anil be fully equal in quality to the corresponding num bers of the Navy canvas in store at the respective Navy Yards. The paints, oil, and spirit* of,tur pen tine, must he of the best quality, anti the paints in their dry state. The lumber must be of the best quality of clear stuff, arid conform to dimensions. All the articles will be subject to, and must pas* tile required inspection. At least one-half of each of the different articles must be delivered at the places designated, on or before the 1st of March next, and the wholo on or before the 1st May next. Separate offers must be made for the flaxranvas, the cotton canvas and hammock stuff, the paints and oils, and the lumber, and separately for the qualities which are t« be delivered at each Yard; and the offers must be endorsed with the name of the article for which they are respectively made. Each person offering, must forwarrtan obligation signed by two persons of responsibility, known to some Navy Agent, or Officer of the Government at Washington, binding themselves to the execution of a contract, should such person’s offer bo accept ed. Mono* to one-half the amonnl of the contract* which may be made, with two good and aofficient sureties, will be required for their faithful execu tion, in addition to a deduction of 10 per r ent, from all bills which may bo approved and pair! before the completion of the contracts, which will he retainer! until they are fully completed in all respects, ac cording to their terms.
