INFLUENZA AND CONSUMPTION.
It is indeed a melaneholly truth that thousands
fall victims to Consumption every year, from no
other cause than neglected Colds ; yet we find hun
dreds. nsty thousands, who treat such complaints
with the greatest indifference, nnd let them run on
for weeks nnd even months, without thinking of the
danger. At first yon have what you consider a
alight cough or cold ; you allow business, pleasure,
or c*rclcasnees to prevent you from giving it any
attention; it then settles upon your breast—^you be
co > e hoarse, iiavc pains in the side or chest, ex
pectorate large quantities of matter, perhaps mixed
with blood ; a difficulty of breathing ensues, and
then you find your own foolish neglect has brought
on this complaint. If, thou, you value life or health,
bo warned in time, and don’t trille with your Cold,
or trust to any quuc.k nostrum to cure you ; but im
mediately procure a bottle or two of that famous
remedy. Dr. Wistar’a Balsam of Wild Cherry.

On the night of the *21 nt, instant, near Shoulders
Hill, Nnnsernond County, after a most painful ill

murmur, Mrs. Henrietta Darden, wife of Mr.
Hugh K. Darden, leaving an affectionate nnd do

fant child, togedier with a large circle of friends
and acquaintances, to deplore a loss which cannot
be appreciated In the death of Mis. D. the hns
band has lost an amiable and moat affectionate wife,
the father and grandmother, a dutiful and affection
ate daughter, the child a tender mother, the ser
vants a kind and indulgent mistress, the neighbor
hood an excellent neighbor, and the poor a kind
friend.
The writer has long known Mrs. Darden and can
conscientiously say, that in the capacity of wife,
mother, daughter, neighbor and friend she was
pre-eminent
She with perfect resignation yielded her spirit to
him who gave it.

An Important Letter.- Read the following let
ter from Mr. Wm. Shaw, a respectable Druggist
in Wilmington, N. C., a gentleman of unbounded
veracity, in whose word the most implicit confi
dence may be placed, another proof of the superi
ority of Dr. Swayne’s Compound Syrup of Wild
Cherry.
Wilmington, N. C., Jan 5, 18-16.
Dr. Swayne—Dear Sir—You will please send me
twelve dozen or more, as you see fit, of your Syrup
of Wild Cherry. From sales of to-day I have but
a half dozen on hand ; the sales arc rapidly iorreas
ing.and will, I have no doubt, continue to do so.
An acquaintance of mine called a few days ago to
say he would give me a certificate of its good ef
fects. He is from the country and a minister in
the Methodist Church. Shortly afttr obtaining the
agency, I prevailed upon him to try a bottle, though
I doubted whether anv benefit could be derived, lor
he, as well as myself, thought his ease was con
firmed Consumption. In fact, every symptom was
indicative. Shortly after, he wrote me to send him
four or five, bottles more. Ho came to town last
week. 1 will quote his own language. “ Sir,”
said he, " I am a new man, and I consider it a du
ty I owe to the public to tell what Dr. Swayne’s
Compound Syruo of Wild Cherry haH done for me.”
1 will publish his certificate, and as he is o-cnerally
known all over our section, I expect good results
from it.
With every feeling ot respect, yours truly,
Wm • Shaw
