NORTH CAROLINA CAMPAIGN SHEET The Negroes Freely Circulate One Among the Voters. THE TRUTH IS DISREGARDED Information Anentthe Approaching State Tulr ? Kct. Thonii.s JefTersou Horner ' Dead ? Atlanta Constitution Mini tin F?deral Interference in North Carolina Political Affiilrs-A Member of tho Dis? tinguished IIUI family Crosses tlie Hirer to Meet a IS rot ben. Ralolgh, N. C., July 1G.--A special from Hooky Mount says: "Tho White Man," a negro campaign sheet, is being freely circulated around beJ*o. Among other things it assumes to prove that In some of the Southern States where legal meusures have been Adopted to purge the ballot box of the fraudulent and vicious vote, that from one-half or two-thirds of the white man are disfranchised. In the support this statement no sort of regard r the truth has been observed In giv? ing the figures, nor liavo the different conditions that prevail in the electo? rate In those Slates been even remote? ly hinted at. ANENT THE STATE FAIR. We are pleased to announce that the directorship of the educational depart? ment In the Fortieth Stale Fair has been accepted by Charles J. Parker, Baa., of this city, whoso well-known energy and administrative talent af? ford the assurance of a great success. The officers of the Fair will make every effort to present a thoroughly repre? sentative exhibition from our schools and colleges. Eligible space on the ground iloor of the main building has been especially reserved Tor the exhibit, and It will have tho personal care and attention of Mr. Parker. The premium list, revised and enriched, will be mos! attractive, and the schools that visit the Fair on Educational May will bo much Interested in Ihe display. There Is reason to expect some lib? eral premiums from publishers and manufacturers of school appliances, In addition to tho offers or the society. President Charles McNnmoe has been fortunate In this selection. PROMINENT EDUCATOR DEAD. Rev. Thomas Jefferson Horner, tor fifty years or more a minister in the Baptist Church and a teacher, died Saturday morning at I o'clock at the residence of his son. Prof. W. D. Homer, in Henderson. He was in the seventy-seventh year or his age. Mr. Horner was nn enthusiastic worker in the closely-related causes or religion and education until about live years ago, when he was disabled by disease nnd the Infirmities of age. In Septem? ber. D9G, he was partially paralyzed, and ror more than a year before his death he had been confined to his bed. FEDERAL INTERFERBNCE. A special from Wlnston-Salein says: Mr. James A. Mollomon, the well known Washington correspondent of the Atlanta Journal, was here to-day. He will probably remain In the State until after the August election. "Talk about Federal Interference, you have had a remarkable case of it in Winston this week," said Mr. Mol? lomon. "I made a statement some time ago In my paper that ihe Admin? istration would take n hand In North Carolina politics, especially In an effort to defeat the amendment, and the prosecution of registrars, Thompson nnd Wall verify the truth of that statement. When I made It. however, the Republican leaders wet.- quick to rush Into ihe Democratic press of the State with all kinds of denials, some or them rather unparliamentary. What Is the prosecution of Thompson and Wall for, If not to intimidate other registrars and embolden the negroes'.' Who are behind it? Evidently the Fed? eral office-holders In the case. Hoi ton and Blackburn. Who is behind them? The Administration. I would wager money that McKinley himself |s kept personally advised of every step in the proceedings, and first personally ad? vised the prosecution of these gentle? men. That Thompson was hound over might have been expected In n court absolutely dominated by the district attorney and his assistants, if an In? vestigation is made It will he ascot tnlned that the United States Cnmmis slnn trying this case was qualified for the purpose. Sometimes, you know, n verdict Is made before evidence Is henrd. Taylor, of K?ninck}-, for In? stance, pardoned the alleged slayers of Wlllinm Qocbcl before they were even arrrited." DEATH OF DR.
