The Street Committee reported that on account of slow arrival of material It would take another month to com? plete the curbing and guttering of the ward. SUFFERING FROM INJURIES. Mrs. V. C. Plummer, mother of Messrs. L. J. and II. F. Plummer, is in a serious condition at her home on County street, from Injuries received by being run over by a colored bicyclist on Wednesday night. Mrs. Plummer was crossing tho street, and. though tho wheelman had a light, neither raw tho other until too lato, and the lady was knocked down nnd her hip dislo? cated. A problem confronting the Seaboard Air Line olllcials these days, and one which must lind an early Solution, Is the ways and means of relieving the overcrowded condition of the general olllce building here, a condition which has existed since consolidation was ef? fected last Juno. This, it has come to be generally recognized, can best be done by adding another story to tho building, and a thorough examination of the foundation and walls has been made to determine whether their strength Is sufficient to bear tho weight of an tiddlllunal story. The result of this examination bits satisfied the en? gineers that absolutely no risk will be tun in building higher, and they have so reported to VIce-President St. John. That gentleman, who is now enjoying a vacation In central New York, Is ex? pected home early next week, and It If probable that the matter wili then come in for an curly consideration at Iiis bauds, it was said at the general of? fices yesterday that an extra story was the most feasible plan suggested, ami would probably be adopted. Blankenship, of Rich? mond, died at (1:10 o'clock yesterday morning at the home of Mr. James Marshall, at Pinner's Point. She was ?hi years of ago. Mrs. Ulnnkenshlp came from Rich? mond only lour days ago In poor health, and hoping to lie benefitted by change of scene ami air. Her'death was not expected and caused a great Shock to the members of Mr. Mar? shall's family. Dr. Harnest, who sign? ed the death certificate, ascribed her death to extreme debility. The body will be sent to Richmond to-day for interment. DEATH'S DOINGS. The treasurer of Norfolk county ?'?es terday deposited a check of $9,000 with the clerk of the Hustings Court to be turned over to the estate of the late John W. cox. There was a very pretty wedding yast evening at 7 o'clock, when Mr. Napoleon .). Parent and Miss Minnie Hendrickson, both of Chicago, III., plighted their troth in the presence of a large number of friends. The cere? mony was performed by Rev. Father T. J. Brady at tho parsonage. The bride looked lovely in a gown of white organdie, and carried a huge bunch of Bride roses, and wore a dia? mond sun burst, the gift of the groom. Miss Mary A. Nolan, of this city, was maid of honor, nml her dress was ulso of while organdie, and carried a bunch of white carnntions. Mr. George Kendall, of Chicago, wns the groom's best man. and. like the latter, wore conventional black. After the ceremony the bridal party drove to the residence of Mrs. Nolnn, on Middle street, when a reception fol? lowed. Mr. and Mrs. Parent will spend two weeks at the Hygeln Hotel at Old Point and then return to Ibis city, where they will reside. The groom Is well known as the su? pervising inspector of Ihe new St. Paul's Catholic Church and of the new government building In Norfolk. FUNERALS. The Democratic campaign opened in ' Portsmouth last night under the aus? pices of the John W. Daniel Fourth Ward Democratic club. Tlio speakers were Mr. .lack Til ton, Mr. Simpson. W. G. Pollns anil H. N. Poulson, of Nor? folk, and Messrs. L. H. Davis and John W. Wood, of this city. A salute was fired from the club cannon in honor of the speakers, who were Introduced by Mr. .lohn C.
