S. looue, and the commonwealth by Boy. B. Smith. The jury returned a verdict of guilty fixing the penalty at three years in tho penitentiary. Tho now school in the northwest sec? tion of the city, opesed last Monday, now has ','30 pupils enrolled, and it is expected that the number will bo in? creased to 3."i0 during this week. The primary room is crowded already and tho half-day plan will bo adopted in this department to-morrow. All tho other rooms aro about full. The colored school l.as about 550 punils and there will he a considerable atdition to this number during tho 1 we, k. The intermediate examination was held last week and ninny pupils wore promoted, and nearly all of them stood oreditable examinations. Aunspaugh, of Lynchburg, at her home in Coat city, on Friday evening was a great shock to her numerous friends and relatives. Mrs. Aunspaugh was greatly beloved, was amiable, gentle and retiring.
