LOOK FOR OUR ALL-STAR BOWLING TEAMS—SATURDAY Our Pacific Northwest Oriental All-Star bowling teams—men and wo-‘ men‘s—are set. Their names are safely locked in our top-secret tiles. and will be divulged in this Saturday‘s «May 17) edition of Northwest Times. i Mind you. we did not choose the men and women stars on the strength of good looks and big muscles. Rather. we hand picked the stars on the basis of ability. consitency. league and tournament play. and team spirit, Some or the candidates who sent in their pictures and bowling figures were not named on the first squad but received honorable mention. In our persistent search for the stars. we were given much free advice on how to name the elite men and women's squads. The most prominent‘ suggestion was that we put heavy emphasis on tournament performance.‘ Sorry. guys and gals we cannot string along on that one. After tossing over the topic of tourneys in our noggin for the last two or three—perhaps. four—weeks, we have concluded that the ”best" bowlers don't always win. We have seen. on more than one occasion. where ma jor league aces packing fat 190-plus averages shooting far below par in tournaments due to tough breaks. In league play—which is for a period of six or seven months—class tells. In tournament competition—which is for a brief duration of a day or so for an individual—anything can happen and does. So, we feel that a good league bowler deserves an all-star bowler rating. There is more luck involved in bowling than in any other sports. For example. a mediocre 150-average kegler could get “hot" and lucky and fire a high 500 or even a 600 series. In golf. a “90" golfer could hard ly be expected to bask in the low 70's. See what we mean by luck? However. a man or a woman who does well in both league and tourna ment matches consistently is THE REAL THING AND A RARE ONE. in deed. But. alas. such superhuman creatures are not to be found here. Be on the lookout for our all stars—Saturday. INTERNATIONAL REALTY Real Estate and Insurance Business Opportunities Notary Public K 37.
