TWO NOTORIOUS GUN MEN HELD.
NEW YORK, Dec. 19.?Twenty-four
hours after the district attorney's of
fice took the search for the murderers
of Uarnet Baff away from the police,
who had spent throe weeks without ac
complishing anything, two indictments
were returned which are believed to be
the entering wedge In the solution of
the mystery about this "second Itosen
thal killing."
Joe and Jake Cohen, brothers, were
indicted on a charge of assaulting A.
J. Plerson, a business associate of Baff,
nearly a year ago. It is generally ad
mitted that this charge lias been made
merely to afford an excuse for holding
the Cohens while the murder inquiry
proceeds. This Is made evident by the
fact that immediately after they were
indicted the two Cohens were arraign
ed and bound over In the prohibitive
ball of $25,000 each.
The Cohens are notorious gunmen.
