PARIS, Dec. 23.?The Chamber of Deputies voted today on an appropria tion for $1,700,000,000 to cover the extent of the next six months, includ ing the cost of the war. 3 British Warships At New York harbor NEW YORK, Dec, 23.?The British cruisers Lancaster and Suffolk and the battleship Gloria, which have not been heard from for several weeks, appeared off the entrance of New York harbor yesterday. During the early part of the war they maintain ed, with other British ships, a regu lar patrol of New York harbor. The three warships steamed within five miles of the Sandy Hook lightship and then southeast. Cattle Drown in Big Arizona Flood By Asoclated Press. PHOENIX, Ariz., Dec. 23.?Several hundred head of cattle were drowned last night in a flood caused by the heaviest rains in the history of this section of the state. Traffic between Phoenix and Flor ence was suspended today, on account of waBhed out roads and bridges. The .canals of the Salt river valley irriga tion works have been seriously dam aged. The Salt rivor, the Gila, and dera ntly rectfng' It to investigate the o wnership ;of-,the Little Kanawha railroad in West Virginia' and to report whether the road is being held and operated in restraint of interstate commerce. The railroad in question was fomer ly owned by the Wabash system, but was sold to the New York Central, the Pennsylvania and the Baltimore & Ohio railroads. The Baltimore & Ohio now operates the line. It is expected that the report of tho commission will be made early in the new year. Constable Eiggs Will/Destroy Liquor Judge Haymond of the Circuit Court on Wednesday appointed W. R. Rlggs to destroy the liquor taken by the State in the cases of the State of West Vir ginia vs. James Weaver, George Crews, William Bryant, Berkeley Williams, Joseph Glynn, John Slirlver, Thomas Trice, Kusman Tlntar. Mr. iliggs was not In town at the time the order was entered by the court, but as the order directs that the liquor be destroyed forthwith, it is likely that there will be less booze In. the basement of the court house tomor row than there has been for several months. The order entered does not apply to the cajload of liquors that came into possession of the officers at Farming ton several months ago.
