BRIGHT OUTLOOK
FQRJAITTA
Tri-state Champ Floor Team
Has Played Together
6 Years.
Marietta, o., Dec. 8.?if & bright
Cutlook would win games for a basketball
five then Marietta College would
have very nearly a perfect record for
the coming year of the Indoor sport.
Coach Drumm will send much the
j same team back this year that won
the Trl State championship last winter
and won eighteen oat of their nineteen
games played, running up a Hcorc
over the eight hundrc : mark tor their
season's work. The only men lost by
graduation was Turnbull at center
and of the other four regulars and
three subs not a man will bo absent
{, when the first whistle blows, unless It
/ would be WIthington a sub guard of
last year who baB been out of school
owing to an attack of fever.
Captlan Cres Whiting will be at the
same old guard and by his record for
i the past two years should easily lead
all guards In the stato. In his two
years of college BSshetball he has allowed
but eighteen baskets to be
made ofT of him In thirty-two games, a
record which we believe lias 110 equal
considering the class of teams which
Marietta has played In those two
years. Moistcr, a wonderful guard
especially on defensive, will hold
'l down hlB old position as there Is no
man playing the guard position in Ohio
today who could beat "Fat" as a defensive
guard.
Hayes, last year's captain, will hold
down one of the forwards unless he Is
switched to center and It is putting it
mildly to say that ho Is the most aggressive
floor man In the state today.
Don Whiting playing his first year of
college basketball last year was mentioned
by prominent Bport writers of
the east as the most wonderful player
developed In a decade. He personally
scored 432 points for the Blue and
White against 305 for the ninety different
men who faced the Marietta aggregation.
He was unanimously chosen
as tho best floor man In the Buck
eye state last year and will no doubt
repeat It he docs not get an All-America
position.
Of last year's subs Skinner can play
a forward or a center position and play
It like a Btar. On any other college
team In the state he would be a star of
! the first magnitude. Calander. a sub
guard of last year will try for a regular
position either at guard or center
and with his speed and reach he will
make some one go for that center position.
Wlthlngtou. who subbed at guard
and center last year will round Into
shape for the opening game and Conch
Dnimm is hopeful that this big boy
will be able to come up to the promise
which he has been showing the last
year or so.
The present Marietta College basketball
team has played together for
a period of six years, they having wrm
the High school championship of the
state in 1914 besides finishing well
c up In the race in other years. Of the
i team that won the championship In
1914 four regulars and one sub out of
the seven men who made up that
team are in school today. lVlth the
success of last year fresh in mind the
Blue and White quintet should sweep
through to the championship of the
state with ease If not to higher honors.
DRY GOODS ARE SCARCE.
PARKEKSBURG. W. Va., Dec. 8.?
That the supply of dry goods Is still
scarce, and that there is a remarkable
tendency for the market to go upward,
was the general report made by members
of the Fifth division of the Southern
Dry Goods Association, who mat In
conference here today. Many representatives
of wholesale firms in this
state, sections of Ohio and Kentucky
-ere present, and a general discussion
o: market prices and a general review
of tho state of the market was held.
CANNOT BIND COURT REPORTS.
CHARLESTON. W. Va., Dec. 8 ?
Binding for over 5.000 volumes of the
reports of the Supreme Court of Appeals
Is not obtainable, owing to the
scarcity of leather, and Attorney General
A. A. Lilly, under whose direction
they were printed, announced today

of the court, he will ask the legislature
in January for permission to
change the kind of binding required
by law.
REJECT PRINTING BIDS.
CHARLESTON', W. Va., Dee. S.?
The State Printing Board today decided
to reject all bids received this week
for state printing and binding and for
the purchase of stationery for the next
two years. The lowest bids were almost
three times as much as those accepted
two years ago by the board.
New specifications will be made and
other bids asked for.
