IN THE FRONT ROW HEADLINERS TONIGHT. Musical Comedy. Hippodrome Roseland Malda Photoplays. Nelson.... The Eternal Sapho Grand..... The Right Direction Dixie The Devil's Pay Day Princess Wrath THE Hippodrome's offering this week is a very excellent musical comedy which Is rich in song and dance and a number of prettty women. The comedy element of The , Roseland Maids Is In the hands of car pable players and the audiences which greeted the production so for this wws w?ih euuiusmsuc mm gave conclualvo evidence of being well pleased. There will be a change of bill tomorrow and also another on Friday. Last night's bill will be repeated at both performances tonight Howe's Travel Pictures will be shown at the Grand tomorrow. , Virginia Abbott, the newly appointed manager of the Dixie Theatre at Mannington, Is confined to her home In this city by a severe illness. Hank Mann, who Is at the Nelson today in "Chased Into Love," is known as the most accurate man in motion picture comedy work. Every morning before putting on his make-up, Mr Mann even counts the hairs in his mustache, to be sure that It will show no change during the progress of the picture. From rather a sordid beginning which depicts the brutality of a father in the slums of the East Side of New York and In which a lltttle girl and her Btm smaller orotner uecome waits, "The Right Direction," at the Grand today, develops Into one of the cheeriest, most whimsical and impossible little tales of the broad highway that could be devised. It Is a delight from 1 the moment tltat Polly, otherwise MIbs Martin, starts with I3111y (Baby Jack White) for far-away California. Her equipage Is a baby carriage and on the way she picks up a tramp dog and a human tramp, both of whom she befriends. She flnallv reaches her destinations by varied means of travel, saves the life o' a mine owner. Is Involved In a mine strike and finally wins the love of the rich man's son. MIbs Martin is exquisitely youthful: j In all her acting she never once sug-; gests anything approaching maturity. She is ably seconded by the baby I player and by Colin Chase, Herbert j Standing. Alfred Hollingsworth. and Billy Mason. The exterior scenes In 11 the hayfields and along the road West, j and the mining Interests, are unusual ly fine. Some nature touches showing ! n hen and her haystack neat, the dog "Rags"?a most admirable canine with \ an all but human countenance?are introduced with telling effect. Photography and lighting are of the best. OLD STAGCR.
