This Information was .secured when an effort was made there to find out bow many casualties / there were In the 318tb, 814th and f?16th regiments of field artillery. These are the Weat Virginia regiments which. In large majority, landed at Newport News last Wednesday. They were of the 80th division and the casualties of that division when last totaled were published at the \tlme. They were then given as 14*1 t ;u?uuu uobuio , o,vaa wouoaea; uku 'There were 55,814 enlisted men from feet Virginia In the military service ween April 1, 1917, end November . 1918. Theee figures Include only .0 enlisted men, no aomplletion bsr* been mede, by etetes, of the num"'/ of commissioned officers end ermy < M clerks who were In serrlce during the period mentioned. While these figures Included ell West Virgin lens who were either enlisted es -volunteers or Inducted Into the service under the provisions of the Selective Service lew, es well es mon 9f the Notion el Guard, they do not take Into oonslderetlon the piece of residence of the 131,797 enlisted men who were serving In -the regular ermy pn. April 1,1917. There wss no clessldemon of these men according to states and territories and the War deportment states that it Is now impracticable to undertake such e classification. Walter 8. Scott, .erstwhile of PhilB-, has been sworn In as as-1 slatant librarian of the United States Senate. This appointment was secured for him by Senator Sutherland. When the latter wis elected to the Senate, Walter Scott Who played a / background but none the less Important part In that event, became connected with the office staff. But prior to that, at the time when the then Congressman-at-large Sutherland, and shortly prior thereto, threw- his old campaign hat Into the senatorial ring, Walter Scott became attsehed to the Sutherland boom. Politics In the Second West Virginia district Is bis specialty, a conservative and unusually correct political judgment Is his long enlt. It now comes about that Mr. Scott Is given a reward suitable to the valuable services he has performed for his chief. The position Is remunerative, dignified and important.
