The Crank Trunk lUilroad, lrom -Montreal to Portland, pa-cs through, tho northeastern corner of Ver mont Tor about 2J miles. The JIaine Col lector has for years ignored this fact and insisted that the goods passing in bonded cars over this road for Portland and Ilos tun should be entered and treated as if thcy wcr- laiportations into his district. The Vcruunt Collectors, on the other hand, have maintained tint as the goods actually cross tha line at Island Pond, in the Ver mont district, the entries belong in this Vermont di-triut. Various agents of the Treasury Department have from time to time been sent to investigate the matter, and have reported that tho goods camo into Vermont before thcv reacliml Miin., ,i should lie entered at Island Pond. Secre tary Ilristow has acted on a recent rcnort n this kind, and ordered the entries to bo made at Island Pond, whereat there is con siucrablc stir in Maine.
