Conducted a city-wide clean-up campaign using about 40 tracks and mart ng 34>3 loads of garbage and refuse In three days. The clean-up committee recommended that this work should not be the duty of the chamber of commerce and recom mended that the directors submit a plan for dty garbage disposal to the city council. In compliance with thia recommendation a dty garbage and sanitary ordinance was adopt ed. City Plan and Parte Development. Assisted in organisation of the Community Extension Corporation which purchased section No. If, south of the dty for future develop- Co-operated with the dty eouncfl f vd the Community Extension Corp n ation in securing an expert dty planner who drafter u basic dty plan and lay-out to guide the dty in its future derclopment. Appolntcd a committee to negoti ate for a park site in top of Cas per mountain and to secure with drawal from entry of the tract known as Hell's Half Acre. Com mittee is still active and they hope to complete negotiations in the near future. Appointed a committee to develop a lighting system for the Platte river bridge on West Yellowstone. Thia committee is activb and will make its final report in the eery near future. Appointed a committee to consid er proper zoning ordinance and to cooperate with the city council in the proper drafting of same. This committee is active and will render a report in the hosr future. Appointed a committee to consid er and draft a comprehensive auto parking ordinance for the dty and submit same to the city council for their consideration. Forum Meetings. Conducted 44 forum meetings cov ering 30 different subjects with an average attendance of 91—an in crease over last year of 13 members per meeting. Good Roads. Built 11 miles of road between Whiskey Gap and the Ferris and Ixmt Soldier oil fields, at an ex pense of >2.025.00. finances for which were raised by public sub script ion. Conducted p. s>uj)licsty campaign end gave moral support to the state highway bond issue. Cooperated with the Casper Mo tor club and the city coundl in es tablishing and equipping a suitable tourist camp. This camp is consid ered to be one of the finest in the Uniled States and last season ac counted for an expenditure in excess of >35.000.00 among Casper mer chants by the tmirlsts. Co-operated with the Motor club to secure tho grading and leveling of the highway on Hast Yellowstone near the city limits. Recreation. The redaction of coal freight rate* from Kirby, Wyo., to Casper and Mudaon, Wyo., to Cooper, which were made effective June 20 and August 20. 1921. have resulted in an approximate saving cf $34,523 from date* effective to February 1, 1322. to the citizens of Casper. Induced the Burlington Railroad company to lessen the running time of Train No. 3o between Billings and Denver, putting this train into Denver ot* hour earlier. TYi* traffic committee and the board of directors are now ing for a freight rate Investigation, which, if successfully carried out, will result in a saving of approxi mately SIOO,OOO a year to tho citi zens of Casper. It Is considered that next to the irrigation orojcct, this is the most important pie-?j of work that the chamber of commerce has undertaken. HxMlorsed the Great Bakes-St. Lawrence Tidewater association project and sponsored an active pub licity campaign to boost the deep ship canal project from tho head of the hkv to the Atlantic seaboard. Invest Ration and Mediation. Tho special investigation commit tee endorsed seven propositions sub mitted. rejected eight proposals for solicitation for outside advertising schemes, dance programs, pocket di rectories, etc. In nearly every case, parties connected with .-ejected pro posals ceased operations. In a great many cases. parties did not conduct advertising and soliciting campaigns when they found out that their case would be subjected to rigid scrutiny of tho chamber of commerce investi gating committee. We feel that this committee has rendered valuable service to the merchants and pro fessional men, and have doubtless saved the people of Casper thou sands of dollars. I wish to empha size tho necessity of our members co-operating in this work and refer ring questionable cases to the cham ber of commerce. If members will co-operate in this work. Casper will soon be known as u city where worthless special advertising propo sitions cannot be put over. Legislative Matters. Appointed national coundkn- to represent this chamber on the ooun cil of the Un'ted States chamber of commerce. Voted flvs referendum ballots dr culated by United States chamber cf commerce on subject* concerning National legislation. Co-operated with the local Ameri can Legion post and Natrona coun ty Red Cross to secure retention of the office cf the federal board for vocational training now th* veter ans’ bureau. Co-operated with other cities throughout the state in an effort to secure a decision by the Wyoming supreme court relative to the valid ity of the statute, recently enacted, that has to do with tho distribution of oil royalties to school districts.
