MAY CHANGE STANDING OF THE CANDIDATES The Valdez Prospector states that more than two hundred votes were cast in the Bristol hay region at the recent election, but that the official returns have not yet come in. It is believed that these returns will change the present standing of the candidates for the territorial senator ship. SUCCEEDS IN RAISING WRECKED SCHOONER Captain Stagger, the diver, who suc cessfully raised the Curacao, and later purchased the wreck of the Montana which sunk in Redoubt bay, not far from Sitka, has raised the schooner and taken her south to be repaired at Port Townsend. A Correction. A few days ago the Times stated that Bert Btollinger was in Port Wells doing assessment work on the mining property owned by Councilman Thos. Davis. The article should have read that Mr. Bollinger is doing work on valuable claims belonging to himself adjoining the property owned by Mr. Davis., [ Through the efforts of the Seattle Commercial Cluh, three transcontin enal railroads hnve agreed to use in the literature they scatter broadcast throughout the United States each year a large number of photographs depicting the scenic beauty of Alaska. The value of this advertising cannot be underestimated, particularly at this time, as 1915 is destined to see the heaviest tourist travel in the history of the country owing to the European strife. Thousands of persons who an nually go abroad for their summer rec reation will visit the Pacific Northwest and Alaska next year instead, because the European watering places and other rendezvous of tourists will be closed. The Alnskan photographs supplied to the Northern Pacific, Great North ern and Milwaukee roads show in no small way what a wonderful country Alaska really is, and will no doubt be the means of prompting many per sons to visit the Northlnnd. Officials of the above mentioned lines have written to the Commercial Club, thank ing the organization for the photo graphs and giving assurance that they will be used in literature that is now in course of compilation. He stated that he believed that the time W'ould come in the life of some now living In Alaska when the Terri tory would form four great states, Juneau as its capital; a second, Al aska, embracing Souwestern Alaska, with Valdez as its capital; the state of Seward, embracing the Seward pen insula, and the fourth probably be Tnnana or Yukon with Fairbanks as the capital. -:o: ICE SAVED NOME FROM BEING BADLY DAMAGED A blizzard, which threatened great damage to Nome, occurred last week. The large amount of ice along the shore saved the city from partial de struction. The floating ice held the surf down and the tee would raise and fail with each wave, but the spray could not reach into the town and coming back to the sea did not un dermine the buildings as was done in the storm of two years ago. FEAR LOSS OF TWO FISHING BOATS Juneau exchanges express the tear that two fishing boats, the Viecara and Anna Wanna, which were known to be in the path of the great storm which caused the Dirigo to founder, on November 16, have been lost. ———— :o: Today’s rain has made the path of residents on Fourth street smooth— and slippery. -:o: Harry Kerr will leave in a day or two for Fort Wells, where he will spend the winter.
