Tom Altken, the wealthy operator
of the Interior has purchased the
quartz property of the Wells boys In
the Broad Pass for n quarter of n
million dollars. Two thousand dollars
were paid down In cash and a further
payment of eight thousand dollars will
be made in thirty days. The pro- *
porty consits of three claims on what
is known as the Mammoth ledge.
It is reported the deni waB consum
mated by Altken for the Guggenheims r
and that the great smelting firm is |
about to develop that, section on a
very extensive scale.
The latest news from Broad I’ass
seems to confirm the most optimistic
statements made about it notwith
standing the scepticism which has
been in evidence in quarters outside.

WELL-KNOWN IN CORDOVA
SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 23—C. J.
Jones, traftlc manager of the Southern
Pacific railway, dropped dead today
from heart failure. He came here
from Seattle a couple of years ago,
where he held a similar position with
the Alaska Steamship Company and
Copper River & Northwestern rail
way.

J. C. Duff, one of the pioneer pros- a

there, was an arrival from the interior "

the past summer in prospecting his '
ground. He has been operating a
drill, and reports striking some very !>
excellent ground, which, after some
further prospecting to determine the!°
method of operation, he will proceed Sl

Mr. Duff states that the outlook for *);

Carlson, another of the pioneers

The country in the vicinity of Val

id it is anticipated that long before

adjourned this afternoon for Christ
mas and will not convene until Tues
day next.
