Lund, the well-known Alaskan contractor, after a two months’ visit to California and Washington cities, was a returning northern passenger on t*ie last trip of the steamship Ad miral Evans. This was Mr. Lund’s first trip out in 21 years, and he says it will be his last, unless It should be on very important business. Nearly 22 years ago Mr. Lund was sent hy a Russians trading company to con struct some buildings at Golivan bay, and each year he drifted from camp to camp, engaged in contracting and mining. lie was in nearly all the new ■strikes nnd stampedes throughout the territory, and finally settled in Cor dova, which town he lovingly speaks of as "home." After an absence of over 21 years from the states Al. found a number of changes and tells of sev eral amusing incidents on himself, one of which occurred in a San Francisco cafeteria. Feeling hungry about 1 o’clock on the first day of his arrival at the Golden Gate, he drifted into a large cafeteria, and of course, went into the main dining room and seated himself . After waiting a few minutes Al. began to get Impatient, and on looking around and observing the covert smiles of the many patrons, he began to think he was purposely j j neglected and his "Irish"' stnrted to rise. When two or three minutes elapsed and still no waiter appeared, he was fighting mad, and happening 'o spy the proprietor, who was a' pasty faced disciple of the sons of, Israel, and could not appreciate a joke, Al. exclaimed: “What's the reason I can’t get served here? Ain’t Alaskn money any good down here?”—Alas ka and Northwest Mining Journal. M. Snyder, of Mendota, who gave birth to children five weeks apart. The first baby, a five-pound boy, was born the latter part of October. The second child, born last week, weighed seven pounds, and is also a boy. Ordinarily, when twins are born on separate days, one or the other dies soon after birth. On this instance both the infants are in good health and give promise of surviving. Surgeons say there is no case on record which approaches this. -: o: Month in and Month out you’ll be money ahead if you use our groceries. S.
