Ilcrg, who now operate a large saw mill, planing mill and an extensive brick factory. Mr. lrK may le termed, without ex aKKration, the "Ituihler of Aber deen," as he constructed mont of the hones ami business blocks of the city, and has been active in every new en terprise that has been established in the town. A force of twenty men Is employed in the mills, but in the lotting season from four hundred to five hundred men are employed in the lotting camps in furnishing the years material. The plant consists r sixteen buildings and lumlier yards, coteting ten acres or ground. The buddings are the saw mill, planing mill, wood working establishment, dry kiln, li.ib-r house, lumber sheds and other buildings. Brick Plant. On the land adjoining the haw mill Mr. Ibrg operates his large brick plant, manufacturing a good grade of building brick. This factory has a capacity of ooo brick per day. and is equipped with the latest improved l.i b k machinery, among which is a large semi-dry machine. power is furnished by a fifty horse power en gine and sixty horse power boiler. The pilot racket has a capacity of drying ."no.ooo brick. Connected with the brick plant, Mr. Ibrg has a tract of twenty seven acres from which the clay is supplied. W. II. I I: EVES & SON. General Repairers. Horse Shoers and Well Borers. The largest bl.icksmit hitig. general repair and well boring establishment in Aljerdeen is that conducted by V. II. It-eves & Son, next to the Alliance Cotton Yard. Mr. Reeves has been in the well boring business in the county for fifteen years, but estalv lished his blacksmith and repair shop one year ao. His business consists in the repairing of buggies and wag ons, all kinds of force pumps, and the drilling of Mowing wells. The equip ment in each feature of the business is complete, and from five to seven kilted workmen are regularly em ployed. For wagon and buggy repairs he lias a Henderson tire-set I ting machine with which the tires can In reset quickly ami accurately on any wagon or vehicle. There is not a blacksmith shop nearer than Memphis that has one of these machines. It was pnr i based at a cost of fl'.oo and is a vast improvement over the old method. For drilling wells lie has two of the latest Improved machines, each with a capacity for Ijoring l.ono feet through gravel, quicksand or hard stone. One machine was purchased from the National Drill and Manufac turing Company and was equipped with a steam engine at a cost of ll.boo. The other machine was tjought from the Austin Drill and Manufacturing Company, at a cost of fl.COO, with Iilakeley gasoline engine and attachments. With this excellent equipment Mr. Reeves has built up a large business all over the country-. Mr. II. K. Fitts. postmaster, took charge of the office April 1. 1'miI, ami has conducted the management of. the postoffice in an efficient ami highly satisfactory manner. The office is now in class three, but from the in creasing receipts it will go into the second class by the first of next July. On September '". this year, which is the expiration of the first six mouths of the year ending March .11, 1!m.", (postoffice fiscal year), the gross re ceipts showed an increase of $S!2 over the same months of last year. The total gain at the end of the fiscal year will have to be $l.::oo over last year to place the office in the second class. The prospects are very favorable. This grade of cut glass is so fine, that there is not a jewelry store in North or Mast Mississippi that handles it. The glass is of the hest material in the world, and the cutting and finish is perfect, without a blemish. The line of hand-painted china cannot he dupli cated in any of the houses of the sur rounding towns. The art goods, sterl ing silver and novelties and beautiful display of bric-a-brac, including vases, china and fancy goods, are without .Mpial in this locality. Mr. Maier also carries a beautiful assortment of um brellas, in gold, silver and plain mountings. This is the oldest mercantile house in Aber deen that has been in continuous busi ness. Mr. Johnson learned his trade in Buffalo, Yew York, and was first in partnership with his brother, V. H. Johnson. He has been sole proprietor of the Aberdeen house sine 1S.". He deals extensively in watches. cheks, jewelry, sewing machines and the like. His brands of sewing ma chines include the New Home, Domestic, and he also carries a the fine line of both new and second-baud ma chines. Mr. Johnson has the best equipped repair department in the State for lioth lines. He makes a specialty of fine watch work, in which he is par ticularly skilled. Mr. Johnson is noted for his line repair work, his varied stock and courteous treatment of the trade. He can furnish diamonds and the finest of watches or jewelry, or anything the trade may require in the different departments. HENDERSON HARDWARE CO. Wholesale and Retail. One of the largest and most pros erous' business institutions in the "dty is the Henderson Hardware Com pany, of Aberdeen. The firm has been in business for eight years, and bids fair to outlast the iernianence of the city. The Henderson Hardware Company does a wholesale and retail business in hardware, furniture, stoves, ranges. carjets and niattfngs. and has an un dertaking branch that is prosperous in spite of Aberdeen's healthy popula tion. The company does a wholesale busi ness in ail its general stock. It occu pies a two-story building with two front elevations. It also requires One large warehouse. Wholesaling takes the wares of the firm into all the sur rounding cities and towns. The capi tal stock, by means of which the com pany operates, amounts to $50,000. He represents the Mutual Life Insurance Company, of New York; also the Traders Investment Company, which buys insurance policies. Furniture, Stoves, Harness, Etc chase exposition: the Nashville sad dles; the Banner and the Kex buggies, and the New Hoyal Sewing machines. The business and the jiopuiarity of the company is increasing rapidly, and has been materially aided by the many new novelties and ideas intro duced by Mr. H. T. Payne. The firm's wholesaling covers this section of State and county. Its ad vantage in buying directly from the factories saves the middle man's profits to the purchaser. This business was established in 1 ;. by James Oldshue and W. A. Mr-. Mil Ian. This firm was succeeded in 1SS2 by W. A. McMillan and his son. J. L. McMillan, and in lfm.'J came un der the control of its present pro prietors, J. L. McMillan and H. T. Payne. Mr. Payne was one of the founders of the Henderson Hardware Company seven years ago. He sold his interest in that firm in September. P.m.5, and purchased W. A. McMillan's interest in the business, when the title of the firm was changed to the McMillan-Payne Hardware Company.
