TXX CXACFIXLD CZBUUTC3 CO, Attaat Ca man was better able to do this than General Wheeler, for none enjoyed the confidence and esteem of both sections more; and, as we have noted, he had always been tilled with a feeling of the broadest patri otism, which refused to recognize or treasure sectional differences and prejudices, (ieneral Wheeler help ed to give strength and force to the spirit of national patriotism that swept over the country with the Spanish war and brought North and South together. We can realize to day in part the goM.l he accomplish ed, but it is doubtful if we of the South have done him full justice in this matter. His example accom plished as much in the way of bet ter H-ctional understanding and re conciliation as could have lieen achieved in a dozen years in any other way. The South will mourn his loss with the entire nation. New Orleans Timcs-Iemocrat. A SUOdlESTION. To the People of Aberdeen. The articles apjearing in Home of our leading publication! have created a irood deal of discussion in Alxrdeen in regard to advertised remedies, their reliability and power to cure, and at local druggists we, the Phoenix Drug ('oiiman v. want to wav to the oeoule of Aberdeen that we believe one of the most reliable medicines that we , have known in our drug experience, j extending over a long period, is Vinol, the cod liver preparation, made with out oil. Vinol is not a patent medicine; ev--rything in it is printed on the back label of every bottle, and it actually does contain a highly concentrated form all of the medicinal, curative el ements of cod liver oil taken from fresh cods' livers, and without a drop of the wystem-clogging yil to upset the tttomach and retard its work, and this is why it is fast suKrseding old fashioned Yod liver oil and emulsions. Inasmuch as Vinol is therefore the latest scientific improvement or an obi ami standard remedy it is the greatest s-trength-creator in the world for old people, weak, sickly women and children, nursing mothers and af ter a severe sickness. It cures hack ing coughs, chronic colds and all pul monary troubles. We ositively guar antee to return nioncv if it fails. I'lIOKNIX DRUU CO. An Illinois editor occasionally bursts ont into song. One of liis solos of recent date is as follows: "Man is a funny little cuss, ami hasn't long to stay; lie llies around and makes a fuss and tlien lie bikes away. Some men imagine they are gnat and try to turn up jack, but each one meets the same old fate and trots the same old track. The sages, heroes, poets, all the men of wealth and worth, into a grave must fall and crumble hack to earth. Then let's not join the man alTray and struggle like the deuce, and agonize our lives away, for really what's the use? Let's live and love and sing and smile, and work hiiu' now and then, and give to everyone a smile that cheers the hearts of men. "I wish there was not a federal office in the South to give to a Re publican. It would help the Re publican party.' This, according to our Washington correspondent, is the reputed language of President Roosevelt, during an interview with a delegation of hungry Republican Tarheels. Similar n-ntiments have lcn expressi'd privately by other distinguished Republicans, who have had more or less voice in the distribution of federal patronage in the South. Their experience served to disgust them. Their language has not la-en moderate in discussing Southern delegations to national Republican conventions. Southern Republicans who seek federal olhee are in the habit of filing all sorts of objections to each other. They rep resent factions, which are involved in bitter quarrels w ith each other. Their contention is for leadership, their voice is for oilicc. If there were just enough Republicans in the South to fill the ollices it would picas' that numlaT of Republicans. No wonder the President is disgust ed. Miama (Fla.) Metropolis. A Guaranteed Cure for Piles. Itching, Blind, Bleeding or Protrud ing Piles.
