The consideration of the bill was accompanied by the presentation ol several amendments, the purpose of which was to weaken Its effect, but all except one were voted down. The one amendment that got by was offered by Mr. Crawley of Attalla. which would seek to prevent the cir cuit clerks or other officials of the counties or cities in the state from preparing and sending out to liquor houses snd distilleries lists of quali fied voters. A plan is on foot, by which prop erty that has slwsys escaped taxation may be gotten on the assessment rolls in the several counties. The blanks furnished the assessors carry a line for -Jewelry. but for all the good it does as a revenue raiser it might as well be omitted, not one piece of jew elry in 100 being listed for taxes . It has been suggested to the ways and means committee that something be done to force Jewelry on the assessment rolls.
