PETITION FOR PARDON
To the Governor of the State of Mis
sippl and the Board of Pardons of
the State of Mississippi:
The undersigned respectfnlly peti
tion that you grant a pardon to a ne
gro boy. Earl Bell. This boy was
convicted at the October term. 1919.
of the Circuit Court of Monroe Coun
ty, Miss., for forgery. He forged a
check for the sum of $3.00 and was
sentenced, upon his plea of guilty, to
a term of two years in the state pen
itentiary. He was not represented
in court by counsel and it was not
developed that this boy is feeble
minded. He was injured when a baby
and his skull fractured to such an ex
tent as to cause this condition of his
mind. . We believe, on account of his
youth and the condition of his mind,
that he should be pardoned, as he has
been sufficiently punished.
" Respectfully submitted, N

The Meridian Oil Well
A large number of people are ex
pected to visit the Craig oil well
during today, it having been re
ported that the drillers have reach
ed something like a depth of 2,200
feet nearly 200 feet at the bottom
being into solid lime rock. There
is much speculation as to what the
drillers will find when the drill
passes through this rock strata, eo
far beneath the surface. - Many be
lieve that a great gusher is about
to be brought in, while others r.re
not given to expressing an cr'z'rn

quantities will reward the cuc:l3 cl
