fiKMfiw: row?..-' Time to Put xi Stop to It The astounding proposal is made from Washington that the Uuited States should cancel all or a part of Europe's debt to thia country in order to revive our foreign trade. The proposal, if carried out, would simply mean that the American people take a loss of millions of dollars so that a few large Ameri can manufacturers, already rich from their war profiteering, might add millions to their swollen for tunes by selling Europe, which in turn would pay these manufactur ers for their goods with the money which should be applied to the payment of Europe's debt to this country. In the meantime U3 dubs here at home would be working like thunder to raise tax money to pay both our own and Europe's ehare of the twentv-four billion-dollar debt of the United States. It's a cinch Europe has friends at Wash ington, whether the American peo ple have i not. McComb City Enterprise. Not many months after the ar mistice was signed England made a proposition to President Wilson that the war debt of Europe be cancelled, but he turned it down. Since the Republicans got in power European propagandists have been active at Washington and it is hard to tell what will be the result. England, who is our debtor consid erable millions, has already pre sented her bill fur transporting our troops across to keep the Huns off her neck, and the same has been paid to the tune of 32 million dol lars. We think she should have been told in this instance, "We'll credit your account." But since it lias been paid in cash, whenever England's obligations to us be come due she should be told to shell down the coin. England has been playing this country for an easy mark for fifty years it is time to put a stop to it. Booneville Advocate. Epworth League Institute Pontotoc, Miss,, Sept. 6. What use she may Jiave for these great fighting ma chines has not yet developed; but it is certain they will not cut much of a figure in war. All persons expecting to grow seed sweet potatoes or potato plants for sale in Mississippi next year were again warned by the State Plant Board that their potato fields must be inspected before the pota toes are harvested. This is neces sary in order to be certain that the potatoes do not haye stem rot which is easily detected only in the field. Growers are urged not to delay sending in their applications for inspection to the Chief Inspector State Plant Board, Agricultural College, as nobody will be permit ted to sell potatoes or plants next spring unless their fwrids were in spected this fa.l. Great leniency was shown growers the past season on account of the new rujes, but the regulations will be strictly adhered to during the coming year.
