Mrs. Edd Robbins and son, of Ed wards, spent the week-end here, as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wil son. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Tanner, of Hazlehurst, are spending their vaca tion here visiting Mr. and Mrs. Joe Tanner, and other relatives. Misses Katherine Baskerville and Anna Ray Ragan have gone to Book haven, where they will attend school at Whitworth College. Mrs. Robt. Pennington visited her sister, Mrs. Mary Robbins at Guide last Tuesday. Chas. Grimes, a former resident, but now of Hammond, La., was greet ing his many friends here Saturday. Mrs. T. M. Harrell is ill with ma larial fever. Mrs. W. B. Huffman returned Wednesday from a week’s visit with Jackson relatives. Mrs. Wilkerson and children, of Cotton Plant, Ark., and Mrs. Floyd Robinson and daughters, of Raleigh, visited Mr. Geo. Robinson last week. In the past 2 weeks the Townsend Gin has ginned 237 bales of cotton. Cab McKay attended an American Legion Convention at McComb City several days last week. Mr. Lee Robinson, of Hickory, visited friends here last week. Miss Betty Harpe, of Route 2. was shopping here Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Rhodes and children were visitors here Wednes day. Mr. N. R. Battle spent Sunday here with his family. Mrs. II. H. Fox visited the Capital City Friday. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Mashburn and attractive children visited relatives at Thomasville last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Stingily, Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Stingily, Mr. and Mrs. Edd Davis. Mrs. Anna Battle and Mrs. Jutson Purvis enjoyed a two days’ outing at the river last week. Mr. and Mrs. Luther Mashburn and Mr. Bennett Bell were Jackson visit ors last Tuesday. Misses Dick and Mabel Wilson left last week to teach school. Miss Mabel teaches at Lexington aud Miss Dick at Columbia. Mr. Dan Ward, our popular as sessor, is building a big barn, which adds much to the looks of his place. A Community Fair will be held here Friday, October 13th. We had a fair last year, which proved a great success, with the beau tiful exhibits of fancy work, delicious home cooking, canned fruit, and all kinds of fine farm products and live stock. Let’s boost our fair aud have even a better one this year. Mrs. Coche, wrho resides east of town, is visiting in the home of Mr. Dick Massengale. The family of Mr. Hem ill are moving to Ora, this week, wnere they will join Mr. Hemphill, who has been employed there for son. ime. Mrs. J. C. Chance is visit ng rela tives in Hazlehurst. The friends of Miss Myrtle Ross, of Virgil, were grieved to learn that she was injured in an automobile ac cident near Hattiesburg last week. She was visiting relatives at Laurel. Russell, and the Pardoning Board of the State of Mississippi. We, the undersigned citizens and tax payers of Rankin County, Mis sissippi. would respectfully repre sent and show that Eddie Johnson pleaded guilty of assault with a deadly weapon, at the July Term of Circuit Court of Rankin County, Mississippi, and was by said court sentenced to the State Penitentiary for a term of five years. That the defendant was a mere youth, at the time of the difficulty in which he wounded the prosecuting witness; both parties being negro boys. Petitioners are advised that he has made a good obedient prisoner. And on account of his age and the circumstances surrounding the dif ficulty, and on account of his merit orious conduct we feel that he has been sufficiently punished, and pe tition and urge that he be granted a full and complete pardon for said crime. MISSISSIPPI HEREFORDS WIN NATIONAL PRIZES East uiet WeHt at the National Hereford Show in Wilmington, Del., recently; and the Mississippi herd of Herefords owned by the LaVeruet Stock Farm near Jackson, was well up umoug the winners in this great nation-wide competition. Twelve herds from ten states competed. The LaVeruet herd took the Senior and Grand Championships of the show in the female classes, with “Lady Comfort 2nd”, a two-year-old of “Point Comfort” blood and make up. The Mississippi herd also won two firsts, two seconds and a third prize, with first prize for two-year old cow and Get-of-Sire. The National Hereford Show w-as held in the East this year to give the farmers along the Atlantic sea board an opportunity to make an intimate investigation and study of the superiority of Herefords for beef making. Throughout the East there is an increasing interest in beef cattle pro duction and Herefords are winning wide popularity there. All week long the stalls at the National Hereford Show were visited by eastern farmers bent on securing first-hand information from owners and attendants. The results will radiate in manifold directions and tend to make “cattle country” out of many abandoned eastern farms. Mr. Troy Goodman, a senior in the A. H. S. at Johns, has returned to school after having been out for a week on account of his grandmother’s illness. The Shiloh Flying Squadron is to be at Lodabar M. E. Church Sunday afternoon at .‘1 o’clock. Everybody come out, as we are to reorganize our choir, and prayer meeting. Vernon Franklin, Prin. of the Re hobeth School, spent Sunday at home attending Church at Shiloh. We are very sorry Mrs. R. W. Harp continues ill. We hope she will soon recover. Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Finch visited Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Watson Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. B. L. Watson visited Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Martin Sunday. Misses Thelma and Ruth Pace spent Sunday afternoon with their friend, Mrs. Bratcher. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Franklin visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs Joel Pace, recently. Misses Alma and Rachael Walters, our teachers, attended church at Shiloh Sunday. Our Sunday School is moving along nicely under the able manage ment of Mr. Jesse Watson as Supt.
