There will be very little criminal business before the court this term, I all owing to the good effect of pro hibition. Only one murder ease and that crime wa9 committed last year and caused by whisky.” Local Option in Georgia, I . - Atlanta, Oa„ Sept, 10.—The lo | cal option hill has been passed by the house as it comes from the 1 senate, and is now a law. The bill < provides that upon the application tor prohibition signed by one-tenth of tlie voters in any county the ordinary shall hold an election to determine whether or not spiritous 1 liquors shall he sold in that county. All persons qualified lo vote for members of the general assembly are qualified to vote in this election. | The ticket shall be written “For,” and “Against sale.” If the result of ! the vote is in favor of prohibition the ordinary shall give notice oue ’line a week for four weeks, and the aet shall take effect as soon as the ; result is ascertained, except as to the vested right of persons whose annual license lias not expired. II the result of the election should be “for sale,” no other election shall be held in that county within less than two years. When any county goes “against the sale” no person shall sell or barter, directly or indirectly, or give away at his placeof business, oi furnish at any other public place, j any aloouolie, spiritous or malt li quors, or any other drinks which will produce intoxication. Nothing in the bills is lo prevent the manu facture and the use of domestic wines and eider, nr the sale of wine for sacramental purposes; provided, ’ they are not sold by bar rooms at retail. Licensed druggists will not be prevented from selling or furnish ing pure alcohol lor medicinal or scientific purposes. No election can be held in any place where the sale of s-pirilous liquors is already pro hihited. either by high license, local option or other legislation, so long as these local laws remain in force. This is the local option bill, which represents the climax of a long pro hibition campaign. It is probable that under its provisions nearly 100 elections will lie held in this state between now and the end of the year. Too Unanimous.
