Carter, in answer to the objections which have been raised to the creation of a national park in the Lake McDonald country, and which should set at rest about all the objections raised which j have any merit in them. j Senator Carter makes it plain that it is not the inten tion to include any agricultural or mineral land in the pro I posed park, and states that if any such is included in the boundaries as laid out the boundaries will be changed. The senator does not think that any mineral land is in » the report of the geological survey shows that , there are no valuable mineral deposits in that section of 1 country, and the formation is such as to be against the Probability of any mineral existing there. The bound aries as proposed do not include the oil fields. Referring to the benefits which would accrue to Flat head county by the creation of the park, the senator points out that from $25,000 to $100,000 would be spent annually in this valley for supplies, and congress would I , , , ,, . . . ,, . ,, , , „ „„„ I undoubtedly appropriate m the neighborhood of $250,000 per year for road building, not to mention money appro i p r j a t e d for other improvements. The building of the roads would make all interesting places in the park of easy access. "The Glacier National Park would be advertised all over the civilized World and would become one of the reg ular points of interest for tourists," says the senator,; ' 'whereas the section of a forest reservation, supplied only with bridle paths and trails, will in the future, as in the past, fail to attract the attention of tha great body of travelers. True, now and then an individual will go in with a pack outfit on a hunting expedition, but such visi tors will be few in number compared with the throng of a ed In A A . . tourists who would frequent the place every summer if embraced in and improved as a national park. The So journing of tourists in the park would mean much to the Flathead valley." Is to expectancy. But no guests came. I he lord puzzled his head soiely to know the reason why. His chief but ler knew, yet durst not tell him. d he truth was, he had neglected to send out invitations. So the feast was for naught. There are merchants just as foolish as this lord. They think if they will put together attractive goods people will find it out for them selves and will stumble over one another in getting to them. But the people fail to find it out, because they have not been invited. The adver tisement is the invitation card, and wise is the dealer who is alive to the fact. It pays to adveitise.—Forsyth Times. PLOT EXPOSED. The plot is out. The villain has been traced to his lair and the screws have been applied. People are stand ing aghast at the terrible revelations. From Selish to Summit and from Gate way to Guusight Pass the country is aroused. The Kalispell journal thus exposes the terrible stale of cfTiirs that exists: "It is stated that about a third of the inmates of the county jail are prisoners that Co tu* from Whitehall, and a great number of them should really he cared for by the city of Whitetish, which is in corporated. Most of tlie offenses for which prisoners are sent down should he punished under tlie city's ordinances. There is no reason the county at large should cure for and feed them, and pay tlie otlicers mileage lor bringing them down than there is that tire county should he under tlie expense of taking cure of the violators of the Kalispell ciiy ordinances. Ii might lie a source of in erest to mitigate the dullness of a long January if ihe Whitetish Pilot would take lip this matter and ventilate its views thereon." The records at the office of our justice of the peace show that during (the past two months five prisoneis ! have been sent lo Kalispell trom White ! fish. Three of these were bound over I lo the district court on felony charges, the only thing that could have been done. The other two'were cases, we believe, which could have properly come before either the justice of the peace or the police magistrate. With a county full of legal lumin aries who are willing to undertake any thing trom running railroads to kill ing bills introduced in congress for the benefit of this county, the poor little Pilot can hardly be expected to ven ture an opinion as to the legal status of the working ot our justice courts, bnt we will whisper gently that the opinion lias prevailed in this office that the only grounds for complaint lie in the two cases mentioned above, and, while they might have been handled by the police magistrate, they also came properly within the jurisdiction of the justice of the peace. While we appieciate the favor of the Journal in passing the matter up to The Pilot lor ventilation, we trust that our esteemed contemporary will camp upon the trail of all offenders nor sleep not until every vestige of vice and wrongdoing in this county has been yanked up and had its tail bobbed and its ears cropped.
