STORY OF MONTANA CROP FAILURE IS SHOWN TO BE FALSE The crop conditions all over the country are the main tropic of con versation every where. In Mon tana the dry farmer has been dealt a hard blow on account of the un usual dryness of the season, but a careful comparison with the eastern states that are always a sure crop, show that we are better off then they. The knockers have been trying to give Montana a black eye, but when it comes down to actual figures compiled 1 y the agricultur al department at Washington, D. C., we are going to have 10 per c;nt more supplies in this state this year than a year ago on acoout of t ie increased acreage. According to estimates made by this depart ment the condition of hay in Mon tana on July, 1 was 74 percent of the normal condition as compared with 100 a year ago, and the con ditions of alfalfa is 75 as compared with 101 last year, so it shows that the hay crop will be three fourths of the normal, while the rumors have it that it is a total failure. We copy a few extracts from our neighboring papers to show that the conditions are not as bad as they appear to be from the car windows. Valley County News:—The farm ers in this section who have made any effort to cultivate their land according to the scientific methods of "dry farming" will harvest a fair crop. Harlem News:—This year has been a supreme test on all kinds of farming, saying nothing about "dry farming". Crops on irrigated lands are not wholly successful, while on some of the bench lands crops are in fine condition. Culbertson Republic:—The crops look exceptionally fine and with the exception of oats we predict very good crop in this district. Hinesdale Homestead : —Crops here are turning out better then expected. Oats have taken quite a growth since the rains a week ago. Mondak News:—Recent rains have done much to improve the crop conditions and farmers are more happy and optimistic than for some time past. Havre Plaindealer:—Despite the unusual dryness of the sersun there are some excellent crops in this vicinity. For the Flathead Valley we can say that we have a very promising out look. In speaking with those who have been over the ground, and old timers in the valley, they all admit that it's dry alright, but still the conditions are quite nor mal. The past two years we have had more than usual moisture and crops were exceptional, so it wont come up to that this year. Winter wheat is looking good and their will be nearly a full crop harvested says a resident farmer. Summer grains are a little short and the fruit crop will be good. Vegetables have done fine. If those that are being ped dled about town here by the farm ers are an example we should say that they are excellent. LEASED CAMAS HOT SPRINGS The Ledger is reliably informed that the Mayo Brothers of Roches ter, Minn., have sucured a lease on the Camas Springs, in the eastern end of the county, and that they will in the near future erect build ings and fit up a hospital at that place. Mayo Brothers have a world-wide reputation as surgeons and their hospital at Rochester is the mecea of the afilicted from both continents. Their choice of the Camas Springs for a new hospital is a good recommendation for the waters of the reservation springs and will unquestionably result in making Camas one of the noted health resorts of the country—San ders County Ledger.
