The first game was a dandy. Goins was in the box and the never defeated "twilighters"were trimmed to the tune of 7 to 4. Kazie, the first baseman made a home run on | this occassion. One bad feature of j the game was the kicking on the umpire, who was charged with showing too much favoritism to our boys. There was no one to umpire the game, so E. M. Lewellyn volun teered and did the best he could. If he erred he did not do it inten tionally and if the decisions were not quite fair one side' suffered as much as the other. The Sweet Grass manager was very much dis satisfied and got kind of huffy about it and sent to Kalispell for Lefty Hanson to come over and superintend the other games, i Lefty may be an alright umpire when any other team is playing except Whitefish. Probably k is j from force of habit, but anyway it j looked as if the game on Saturday j ! was a put up job. Whitefish never : got a look in when it came to a ! I close decision, and naturally the j bleachers and grandstand registered I their kicks quite freely, especially j ! when he called one of our men out I j when a ball had been interfered with by a man who was playing on the bench. He was pulled out in the eigth inning which is to be re gretted, because there was not much show of winning at that stage, and it gave rise to a great deal of unfa forahle comment, especially from outsiders. In Friday's game we were with out a pitcher, as Averill was out of town, so Strellnauer, who has been pitching for the Lindhes, was tried out and certainly made good. He is credited with 14 strike outs for this game and was well supported in the field, but Sweet Grass played a little the fastest game and on the wind up had 3 scores to our 1. Saturday Strellnauer was in the box again, hut was not quite in as good trim as the day before. It was a little too strenuous toward the last and the ordeal began to tell on him. In spite ofthat he fanned II men out, and if he had had the support he should have had the score would have been in our favor. | j j ! j I It was an off day or something for our boys and all scores that the opponents got were on errors in the field that made the fans dis gusted. To to the last inning Whitefish had nothing but a long row of goose eggs chalked up against them, but in the ninth they got a few square licks at the ball and three scores were run ini The feature of the game was the pitching of Strell nauer in the fifth inning when he got himself out of a very tight pinch. There were no outs, and five men on bases didn't look very en couraging, but he fanned the next three men up to bat and received a shower of silver coins from the bleachers for his good work. The final score was 3 to 5 in favor of Sweet Grass. STAGGERS SKEPTICS.
