THOMAS STEWART Vaughn- Montana Harrer Angus Bull Tops Western Sale WESTERN MONTANA Aberdeen Angus breeders turned in a good showing of cattle in their first an nual sale, held in Missoula, Nov. 19th. A good sized crowd of buyers were in attendance at the sale. Adolph Mortag. Cascade, Mont., commercial breeder purchased two of the top bulls of the sale. He led off with a series of bids on the grand champion bull of the sale, Rimini 3d, a son of Hardwickmare 42d from the W. J. Harrer & Sons, Helena consignment. His claiming bid on :he champion was $1,000. Spring Hill Edal, a bull from the Carl Stim son, Belgrade, consignment, was the other bull selected by Mortag. T. E. Williams, St. Ignatius pur chased the reserve champion bull of the sale, a thick, good headed bull from the Dick Peterson, Charlo, con signment, at $735. Arch Ginther, Harlowton commer cial Angus breeder was the judge of the annual event. He placed a Peterson cow, Erica Edith of RCP. to the grand championship position in the females classes. Later Ginther backed up his own judgment in the placement in the purchase of the heifer at $600. Bryan Corbitt & Sons, Choteau purchased the reserve cham pion cow, another consignment from Harrer. This cow was bred by Stim son. Corbitt purchased some 10 head of the animals which sold in the sale. A bull from the Harry Bliss, Fort Shaw, consignment sold to Lew Mil ler, Stevensville at $675. A Clyde Bradley bred son of Gazon 3d of Bordulac sold to Ginther at $725. Bud Lake, Missoula purchased a Stimson bred bull at $520. Norm Warsinske was the sale auc tioneer, Dick Peterson, Charlo, sale manager. No date has been sched uled for their second annual sale. The 50 head offering sold for a total of $16,425. Top Boar Brings $150 at Midland A TOP PRICE of $150 was paid for a Hampshire boar at the 10th annual sale of the Midland Empire Swine Breeders Assn, at Billings Nov. 12. The boar was consigned by F. Wyatt of Bozeman and sold to Ed Melby of Molt. The 51 head of swine offered brought an average price of $60. Second high-selling boar, a Duroc Jersey consigned by Sherman Smith of Bozeman, brought $137.50 from George Snyder of Wyoming. Third, also a Duroc, consigned by Charles Skorupa of Bridger, was sold to Ed Carrell of Wilsall for $122.50. Top Poland China boar brought $77.50. Top Chester White, which sold at $75, was consigned by Charles Philips of Suffolk and sold to Ralph Brown of Broadview. Brown, secretary-treasurer of the areeders association, said Poland China boars averaged $66.50; Durocs, $72.90, and Chester Whites, $35. Gilts averaged $55.25. CLARK, widely known in Montana, where he has done re search work with the Montana ag ricultural experiment station and has served as animal husbandman of the U. S. bureau of animal hus bandry, has been appointed head of the U. S. department of agriculture's work on beef and dual purpose cat tie. The announcement by the agricul tural research administration said Dr. Clark's headquarters will be in Denver. There he will be in charge of planning and evaluating research in beef and dual-purpose cattle breeding.
