Johnny's so long at the fair. He promised to buy me a trinket to please me. And then for a smile, O he vowed he would tease me. He promised to bring me a bunch of blue ribbons To tie up my bonnie brown hair. AND JUST AS in the old song, Johnny will be "so long at the fair" in 1950. But there'll be a big difference. He'll be there so long because there'll be so much to see and to do at all the Montana and Wyoming fairs this year but mostly because he'll be there with the biggest display of livestock and farm products ever. He'll be getting plenty of "pretty blue ribbons" too, but he'll be winning them, not buying them. And there'll be no young lady waiting impatiently at home for Johnny's return. She'll be right at the fair with him and win ning her share, maybe a little more, of those pretty blue ribbons. Season Starts at Shelby The season gets under way this weekend, July 20 to 23, with the Marias fair at Shel by. From then on through the next six weeks there will be at least one and some times two fairs each week. Concluding the schedule will be the Northwest Montana fair at Kalispell, Sept. 14-16. Again the first of the A circuit fairs in Montana will be the North Montana State fair at Great Falls, July 31 to Aug. 5. The second, the Midland Empire fair at Billings, will be held the following week, Aug. 7 to 12. The two A circuit events in Wyoming are the Central Wyoming fair at Casper, Aug. 16 to 19, and the Wyoming State fair at Douglas, Aug. 30 to Sept. 2. Both the major Montana events at Great Falls and Billings assure new highs in en tertainment and exhibits. Both will feature the Barnes and Carruthers brilliant new musical production "State Fair Revue of 1950" each night and the huge Siebrand Bros, circus and carnival on their midways. Rodeos and Races Rodeos and thoroughbred races will be featured each afternoon, with the nation's top stables competing in the races for purses totaling over $20,000 at each fair. Gene Autry's World Championship rodeo will again be presented at Great Fallç. More than $45,000 is offered in premiums at the North Montana State fair. Of this, more than $30,000 will be given for live stock and agricultural exhibits. Premiums for the beef cattle division alone total $12, 365, while those for dairy cattle amount to $7,596, swine $1,620 and poultry $4,500. Pre miums for grain, vegetable and fruits total to $5,000.
