' %** 1 • • Aac he found it nee cssary to grease his disc harrow twice a day before he discovered LUBRIPLATB Lubricants. Now he lubd cates it every other day. When about to put his Harrow away for the winter, after discing something over four hundred acres, he opened up several of the bozini why none of them had requited reol during the season as formerly. All perfect condition even to the square edges of the slot where the pin fitted. He reports having saved, through the use of LUBRI PLATE, one half in actual cash, one fourth in time and in patience, 100%. LUBRIPLATE LUBRICANTS SAVE TIME ~ REPAIRS to see it were in AND REPLACEMENTS LUBRIPLATE Lubri cants have been em ployed in industry for many years. PLATE is used in the manufacture of cats, trucks and other farm machinery. Today LUBRIPLATE is a must ier the lubrica tion of underwater bearings of dredges and exposed bearings of road-building "cats" where heat, cold, wet and dirt are factors. It prevents rust, arrests pro gressive wear of parts and reduces fric tion to a minimum. LUBRIPLATE goes farther, hence is mote economical to use. It is, therefore, the perfect lubricant foe the former. It gives better lubrication during use and positively prevents rust during lay-up. Minot, North Dakota LUBRIPLATE THE MODERN FARM LUBRICANT previous crop, as well as helping in eliminating any volunteer plants. In addition to preventing volunteer growth, burying any shattered seed will, in some areas, reduce the chances of chalcid fly damage to the seed crop in the fall. While this dam age varies with years, it has reduced yields materially in the past. The cultivation of red clover fields for seed is becoming a standard prac tice with growers in all areas of the state. This practice not only helps to .reduce volunteer plants in the second seed-producing year, but eliminates a large percentage of weeds. Where a spring-tooth culti vator equipped with alfalfa teeth is used there is no material reduction in stand. Besides eliminating volun teer plants and weeds, it permits a more uniform penetration of the ir rigation water. Roguing Seed Crops Producers of certified seed have found that clean fields pay. Some have found out the hard way, by having fields rejected for certifica tion, but most growers know that clean fields pay. 0 ** 4 * L~, AS ■*T f I "Now, girls, if yon want a new house—it's simply more eggs for more U. S. Savings Bonds. Tho boss doesn't have enough." In all classes of crops grown for certification it is necessary to do some hard work. Small grain must be rogued of all cereal mixtures after the crop is fully headed. The elim ination of such plants should begin after the is headed and careful watch made on the field until it is harvested. Very rarely can a field of cereal grain pass field in spection without being rogued sev eral times. With legume seed it is necessary not only to have the fields weed-free, but also clear of other legume plants that frequently show up during the growing season. In alfalfa seed production sweet clover is the most prevalent crop mixture found. These plants should be dug out of the ground. Usually this job can be done best just be fore clipping of the first crop, as these plants show up better at that time. When plants are merely art down, many branches remain and produce seed that finds its way into the alfalfa seed in harvesting. In red clover seed production, alsike clover, buckhom plantain and similar crops account for a higher percentage of file crop dockage. While there is considerable differ ence in the size of red clover seed compared to alsike clover seed, nevertheless it is difficult to make such a separation. Cleaning grass seed is difficult Any mixture of species of grass seed will, in aH probability, be marketed that way. In certified grass seed pro duction careful roguing of the fields is very necessary. It should become apparent that one of the factors governing the success of seed production is clean fields. While many phases are fhvolved, still the foundation of all seed certifica tion stems back to keeping aU for eign growth eliminated. Name Your Weed Problem!
