E OFTEN hear it said, "There'll always be
a Christmas." That depends upon the
Christmas keepers. The keeping of Christmas is
one of the major tasks of men who would re
main free and live their lives above the fogs of
paganism.
How may we keep Christmas?
Christmas must be kept as a spiritual fact in
our own hearts. Only that which we keep in our
hearts can be of value to us. The Day must be
lifted up as the most sacred time in our lives.
Otherwise it will cease to throb in our hearts.
If the Yuletide means feasting and drinking
only, we miss its supreme meaning. Humanity
has had a long climb up from barbarism which
it never could have made without the light of
Bethlehem's star. It is the Pole Star of our higher
destiny as human beings. It punctures with its
light the dark nights of life.
Why not gather the family around the tree and
sing "Holy Night" and some of the other mag
nificent carols of our faith. Turn on some of the
marvelous records that may be had at Christmas
time and live again the glory of the Christian
faith. This will help us in keeping Christmas.
And to you all I send this sincere greeting—
"Merry Christmas," with a prayer that it may
be to you a spiritual season rich in the cherished
memories of your childhood and strength to you
to help keep Christmas in our world.
