Mathematics and Physics Building, Montana State College. By DR. R. R. RENNE, President ONTANA State College was established at Bozeman by legislative act in 1893. Since then it has grown steadily in undergraduate enrollment, in science, engineering and agricultural research, and in agricultural extension services. This growth has paralleled the increase in efficiency of Mon tana farms and ranches where much of the scientific knowl edge developed or distributed by the college has been ap plied effectively. From the small faculty and physical plant of 61 years ago, the college has grown to a combined college, experiment station and extension staff of more than 380 workers and more than 30 major buildings. On-campus instruction is of fered in 35 degree curricula covering agriculture, engineer ing, household and applied arts and science. Nearly 2,400 students are enrolled this academic year. The predicted demands for instructional, research and extension services are more challenging now than in the past. In the last two years freshman enrollment has in creased nearly 60 per cent. Based on births 17 and 18 years previous, enrollments are expected to increase between 150 and 200 students per year, then rise sharply after 1963. By 1965 or very shortly thereafter, Montana State College will probably have an enrollment of 4,000 students or nearly double the present. Several factors account for this: 1.
