We decided to do just that in order to have the job completed and the mess over in one operation. The original part of our house was built by my father-in-law in 1909 as a homestead dwelling. As his family grew, he added to it until in 1960 it stood with three bedrooms, kitchen, living room and a long porch to the south. It had plumbing whatsoever, little cupboard or closet space and only a tiny room of a basement. In our remodeling we closed three windows and a door and changed the kitchen window from a tall, old-fash ioned one to a modern "ranch" window. We laid new floors and floor cover ings throughout the house and added closets with sliding doors in all bed tin addition to one in the en no rooms trance hall). We enlarged the basement and made a more convenient basement stairway. We built birch kitchen cupboards and divided the long porch to make an en trance hall, utility room and bathroom. A new well was drilled near the house and a complete plumbing system was installed. As I look back on it I don't know how I survived the terrible turmoil. With my kitchen in shambles I cooked meals for crews of from two to five men on electric hot plate and with the aid of an electric skillet. We all decided with a deep sigh of prideful relief that it had been worth all the effort. I would encourage any one contem plating a remodeling job to do so as an quickly as possible. It is truly amaz ing how the job of homemaking is speeded and eased by the addition of a few modern conveniences. Good luck on your remodeling!— Mrs. Oscar Adolph, Musselshell County. Remodeling I Would Like to Do MY REMODELING REMAINS in the dream stage, but, as the kids say, can dream, can't I?" I would be the most surprised woman in the State of Montana if my dream came true. Prob ably I wouldn't even know what to do about it. With each passing year, my dream gets fancier. Chiefly I want a large storeroom, with drawers and shelves on all sides and reaching clear to the ceiling. It should have a large door, but no win dows. Here we could store things we use occasionally, or seasonally, skis, skates, bikes, games, tools, appliances, musical instruments, gadgets, fishing supplies, extra chairs, tables, benches, books, magazines, winter clothes and so on. The things would be safe, but out of the way when not needed. Two other items I want are: First, an old-fashioned pantry with shelves for canned and packaged goods and large kettles or other household needs; second, a home office, with a desk for the typewriter, shelves, a chair and cot, a good light, and a door that locks. This office would b3 fine for home study, writing, figuring or just reading, resting or thinking. Actually, I think every home needs these three. Certainly, they would make the house bigger, but I know from ex perience that tiny, tight, crowded houses are hard to live in, for you have a dozen things to put in every space and everybody is in everybody else 's way,—Vera Lund Praast, Deer Lodge County. t .
