GOLD RUSH IS ON IN MONTANA } Hundreds In Vanguard Of Greatest Gold Rush In History of Montana ITU the August 29th edict of the President of the United States in regard to consigning newly mined gold for sale, with the Secretary of the Treasury, at the world's market, came a rush of many hundred men into the gold districts of western Montana and before mow flies it is believed that many of these will baye started the shipment of gold ores to local smelters and will be in shape to produce throughout the winter. Prospecting for new de posits also has started. Many of the marginal ores, those on the line ot profit ttiui loss, will now be mined and show a profit at present gold prices. A number of going properties, in addition to men added under their NRA pledges, are further augmenting their forces and one of the greatest gold booms Montana ever has experienced is predicted before next summer. Word has been received from J. C. Kemvanue, Jr., secre tary of the Mining Association of California and P. C. Stoess, head of the Seattle Chamber of Mines, that a meeting prob ably would be held this fall in San Francisco to form a National Gold Producers' Association for the good of the( Altho Montana has no state gold mining association,' w industry. it has a number of local associations covering the field. it has been suggested by other states that the local Montana associations combine their gold mining branches under the leadership of Carl J. Trauerman, Butte mining engineer and gold mine operator so as to obtain representa tion at the proposed national conference. i LOST OK IS RECOVERED IN STRAY HORSE Vosiburg Mining Company, of Winston, Broadwater County have taken over the Stray Horse mine, from the Ajax Mining Company, and have worked out the faulting planes and recovered the long lost ore body about 12 feet north of the fault. Form er operators drove to the south. The ore was encountered on the surface and a 35 foot deep shaft has been sunk, exposing the vein about 40 incbee wide and assaying about 30% lead, 21 ounces of silver and Ys ounce gold per ton. The work is in charge of Clinton and John Roos. Emma Mine Is In Rich Ores It is reported that Butte Cop per ft Zinc Co., a subsidiary of Anaconda Capper Mining Com pany, has encountered rich zinc and silver ore with more than the average contents of lead on its deepest, or 1600 foot level of the Emma mine. This ore is said to be in a drift east of the main crosscut south of the shaft. Congress VALUES RUN HIGH Washingtan Bar Mining Com pany, near Norris, Madison County is sampling It* large placer deposit, preparatory to installing a floating dredge. So far, the test pits show samples running from 97 cents to |2.25 per yard, the holes being still about 15 feet above bedrock. The Ninety Men Work At Gold Creek Ninety men are being employ ed at the properties of the Gold ( reek Mining Company, at Pion eer, Powell County, constructing a 6,000 yard daily capacity float ing dredge to work some t,000 acres of gravel said to assay better than 30 cents per cubic yard. The dredge will be elec trically operated. The ground was formerly known as the Pat Wall and Kohrs-Bielenberg-Leon ard- Symons tracts. I SAMPLING AT AVON It Is reported that either Yuba Consolidated or Winston Bros, are sampling placer ground In the vicinity of Avon, Powell County. 816 fiBLD STRIKE AT VMMU CITY Virginia City Mining Co., headed by Ruppert Garrison, R. T. Newland and H. L. Win chester, of Butte, has opened a very rich deposit ot placer gold on bed rock, about 56 feet be low the surface at the head of famed Alder Gulch, near Virginia City, Madison County. This Is said to be one of the richest placer strikes made in Montana In many years. The gold Is coarse and angular and associ ated with quarts: It Is sent to the surface in buckets and then put thru a sluice box. Arrange ments have been made to extend the lines of the Montana Power Company to the property and modern, electrically driven ma chinery will be installed. Over 6,000 people visited the property within a few days after the strike. HAS RICH STRINGERS Mike Sullivan. Limited, shortly will start shipments of gold ore to rhe Washoe smelter of the Anaconda Copper Min ing Company, under the edict issue by President Roosevelt on August 29th. Besides the high grade ore, which the company has been storing at the property since last November, pending such an edict, there are many tons of lower grade ore which can be shipped at a profit under the new price, and the working force has been Increased.
