Oil Trade Notes Of Interest to Refiners and Marketers WILL EXPLAIN GASOLINE PRICE CHANGES Standard of New Jersey has adopted a new tpoMcy in connection with price adjustment». A statement of reason» «hat bave made price adjustments necessary will be made. The poMcy 1» baaed on the grounds chat "people are interested In and hare a right to know what makes the President W. S. Parrish In his things they hoy coat what they do. announcement aadd: "For what the man in the street pays for his bread and his shoes, his bus fare and; gasoline Me ment, heat and electricity are far more vitafl to him than the wars, scandals and pout** that Ml the headlines. People are interested in and hare a right to know what makes the things they buy coat what they do. And an honest spirit of public responsibility, ae well as in justice to Itself, requires that indue try play its cards face up. "Let us admit that this philosophy of frankness in price making is one the significance of whidh industry ae a whole (has in the past been stow to appreciate. But many observers boBeve the time will come when the prinriplle of hair prices openly arrived at will be as generally accepted as the annual stockholders' report. Understanding and good will are the best insurance known against prejudice, fair and open deal ing the beet guarantees of continued confidence and friendship. "Petroleum is a business with many ramifications. But by and large it is supply and demand, competition, raw material coots, manufacturing costs, wages and taxes—all the old familiar friends we met in high school economics—that chiefly influence the price of gasoline, ae they do that of any other product." • « « • J. T. Sykes of Kaltapell is establishing a new oil basinet» in Living ston as dealer for Socon y-Va outun products, Mobllgas and MjoMJoil. Workmen are busy on oonstrucrtlon of a retail sales station on Park street at H street, and the old Community Gas station at Park and 11th has been purchased as a second station. A bulk plant will also be construc ted at H and Park. ELIMINATE CONSUMERS TANKWAGON PRICE Continental OÜ company has taken one step in solution of the prob lem of co-ops In the maintenance of the price stmetnre in Montana by éliminât ion of the consumers tank wagon price which was two cents under the dealers' price. This two cents fh'as heretofore been distribut ed by the co-ops as a dividend. With the elimination of that price, the farmers can buy their gasoline In qnanlty lots from the dealer ae cheaply as from the co-ops. The latter will have only the normal profit, the same as any other dealer, and while they will probably he able to pay dividends from the normal margin, they will be considerably smaller. The added two cents was one of the principal factors in developing co-op organizations in Montana.
