England Is Termed
Beautiful Country"
By Returning Youth
"England is a beautiful country and
its people, despite the horrors of aerial
warfare which they have experienced,
are undaunted and are now beginning
to see the fringe of victory behind the
dark clouds which have hovered over
their country for so many long
months." said Staff Sgt. J. R. (Bob)
Rice, scot of Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Rice,
upon his return to Butte.
The widely known former Butte
basketball player, who left with the
draft contingent of June 17, 1941, has
spent six and one-half months In
England He was attached to an army
air force ground school and was one
of four men selected from his outfit
to return to the United States for j
specialized training in air force ground
duty. He will be assigned to foreign
service again upon completion of his
training.

For 75 years our country was with
out the nickel, but today It Is the most
used and most defaced unit in our
monetary system. The abuse of the
nickel probably Is accounted for by
the fact that It Is the only coin on
which "In God We Trust" doea not
appear. Treated more carelessly than
even the penny. It Is guessed that over
200 mlUlon nickels are today tempor
arily lost In old clothes, trunks and
dressers.
From tee to green the average cost
of keeping a golf hole In good shape
is $1,000 a year.

We read, but without caring much
about It, that the girdle manufactur
ers have ceased to live off the fat of
the land.
