New Ruling Covers Well Abandonment Petroleum operators may now abandon any oil well with out giving prior notice to the Petroleum Administration for War, Deputy Petroleum Ad ministrator Ralph K. Davies announced this week. Action was taken by revoking a formal recommendation (Recom mendation 47), which required that notice be given 30 days prior to abandonment of any well produc ing more than one barrel of 6,000 cubic feet of gas daily. Discussing the revocation, he said; "Recommendation 47, issued on April 21, 1942, is being revoked in accordance with PAW policy to eliminate restrictions whenever it is practicable to do so. "The PAW district offices, with ihe cooperation of the National Conference of Petroleum Regula tory Authorities, the „Individual regulatory bodies, and various local trade associations, have established working arrangements under which current information on the number of abandonments taking place can be maintained without the necessity for the individual fil ing required by Recommendation 47' oil or Ohio Testing l Continued from Page 1) the Cambrian. This is reportedly the first test well in this field to go through the Madi son lime. The Oregon Basin field is about 60 miles south of the Wyomlng-Montana border, and about 85 miles southeast of the Dry Creek field in Montana, in which the Ohio also drilled through the Madison, finding some shows but no commercial production in the deeper horizons. Davies explained that while all overseas military require ments for petroleum products are being met in full, United Nations' air forces are operating on an In creasingly heavy schedule, almost continuously on round - the - clock schedules. "This means that we must pro duce in ever-increasing quantity. To do it, every facility and every man must now perform to absolute maxi mum capacity," Davies said. z or* 001 ** AA GREASE D.T.E. Crude Demand Moves Upward The daily average supply of do mestic crude petroleum estimated by the Bureau of Mines, United States Department of thevlnterior, to meet the market demand in July, 1944, is 4,603,200 barrels—452,400 barrels (10.9 percent) higher than the edmand in July, 1943. 24,000-Well Goal to Be Met in 1944 The program for drilling 24,000 oil wells this year will be met or, perhaps, exceeded. This was the report of the Petro leum Administration for War pro duction division recently to the PIWC production committee. It re vealed that the War Production board allotted 280,000 tons of car- « bon steel and 50,000 tons of alloy steel for third quarter production operations which call for the drill ing of 6500 wells. Actual comple tions for the first quarter, it was said, were 4.4 per cent below schedule.
