shows that their growth or expansion can be attributed to
manufacturing industries. With few exceptions wherein cli
mate and natural resources have been the contributing fac
tors, the towns and cities which have forged to the front as
leaders in their part of the state and which have become
prosperous communities, have had alert and progressive
business men who pioneered in various manufacturing indus
tries. This move always provides work for residents and
payrolls to be distributed with local business houses.
In this respect, Butte is fortunate in having in the Russell
Oil Co. refinery a concern which is one of the leading oil
refiners in Montana.
This concern refines and wholesales Russell brand of gaso
line and motor oil, and kindred oil products. All of these
products are the equal or the superior of similar products
refined and shipped in by other companies. They have gained
a merited popularity with local people who have tried them
and motorists in other communities where they are dis
tributed. Russell gasoline is retailed locally at a number
of service stations where you will be extended all the cour
tesies, such as radiator and battery water, air for tires, and
other incidentals necessary to motoring which tends to
produce a super service.
Inasmuch as the Russell Oil Co. is a locally established
and managed institution, it is deserving of local support to
the fullest extent. Through taxes on their holdings here
they contribute substantial amounts toward county and mu
