-Hardin Tribune-Herald, Thursday, December 24, 1953 6 B Squad Drops Game To Roundup Five The Hardin B squad dropped a game to the Roundup B team in the only engagement sched uled for them last week end. The game was played on the Roundup floor last Friday pre liminary to the A team game. The Roundup five took a 12-11 first-quarter lead and continued to widen the margin through out winning 58 to 43 with Ord ing and Palagyi leading the at tack with 14 and 16 points, re spectively. Doyle paced the Hardin squad with 14 points. P. Ross Sun day, Dec. 20, during the morning worship services at the Congre gational church. Mr. and Mrs. Ross and their son, Bob, joined the church April 2, 1920 and the three younger Ross children were all baptized in the church. Ross was elected secretary treasurer of the Sunday school in 1924 and continued to serve in that capacity for 26 years. He served as clerk of the church from 1925 until 1949 and for the past four years has been church treasurer. He also has served on the board of dea cons and was a member of the church choir at one time. Mrs. Ross has been active in the Ladies Circle of the church and has served as vice president of the circle. ‘‘Every Sunday morning finds the Rosses in their pew unless illness prevents,” commented the Rev. Winter Ranges Open in Most Areas of State, According to Report of BAE Winter ranges remained open in most areas of the state ac cording to weekly report of the Bureau of Agricultural Econom ics, Department of Agriculture, Helena, for the week ending Saturday, Dec. 19. Increased feeding had be come necessary in central and western portions because of short range forage supplies. In other areas range grasses are abundant and there has been very little supplemental feed ing. Local purchases and move Sunday School Gives Christmas Program Members of the Baptist Sun day school presented their an nual Christmas program last Sunday evening before a large gathering of relatives and friends. Recitations and songs by chil dren of the kindergarten and nursery were under the direc tion of Mrs. R. J. 7 Kennedy, Mrs. Ivan Harden, Miss Peggy Brown and Miss Barbara Cox. The remainder of the Sunday school pupils, assisted by the church choir, presented a pag eant, ‘‘He Is Come—The Mes siah,” under the direction of Gilford Newman, Sunday school superintendent. The pas tor was in charge of the choir and Mrs. Gordon Swaby was ac companist. Out of-state buyers were quite ac tive in the eastern part of the state. Livestock prices were general ly steady during the week. How ever, prices of slaughter steers and heifers experienced a two way trend. Good to prime grades were under pressure and sold lower, while the demand for utility and commercial grades was brisk, resulting in a price upturn. Marketings underwent a pre holiday decline. Many operators are holding back their salable lots until after the first of the year. A few heavyweight fed lambs have been shipped out of the lower Yellowstone valley. Preparations for the holiday season dominated farm and ranch activity. General repair and maintenance w'ork, along with grinding feed, moving feed supplies, spraying cattle for lice, testing and vaccinating for Brucellosis, and some dirt mov ing, made up much of the farm and ranch work. In heavy producing areas considerable time is being spent preparing potatoes for market. Hayden W. Boeckel and Sgt. William C. Stewart, service men from Big Horn county, will spend Christmas north of the 38th parallel in Korea, ac cording to information from the Army. . , On security duty with the 45th Infantry division, they will have the opportunity to attend special religious services and share she traditional holi day feasts. Sgt. Stewart, 23, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Stewart of Crow Agency. His wife, Del la, also resides in Crow Agency. He is an assistant platoon ser geant with the 180th regi ment’s Company B, and enter ed the Army in February, 1952, arriving overseas last May. Among his awards are the Pur ple Heart and Combat Infan trymen badge. Pfc. Boeckel, 23, son of Mrs. Katie Boeckel of St. Xavier, is a squad leader in Company E of the 180th regiment. He en tered the Army in December, 1952, and completed basic training at Camp Roberts, Cal. He has been overseas since Ju ly.
