Rites for former
Hardin resident
Funeral services were held Sat
urday at the First Baptist church
in Sioux Falls S. D., for Thomas
M. (Max) Ellis, 55. a former Har
din resident.
Burial was in Sheridan. Wyo.
Mr. Ellis died in a Sioux Fails
hospital on Wednesday. Dec. 13.
He had been hospitalized several
times during the past year, after
an auto accident in December of
1961 in which three persons lost
their lives.
He was born in Wymore. Neb.,
on July 22. 1937. and attended the
University of Nebraska in Lincoln
for two years.
He was a cattle dealer in
Nebraska. Montana. Wyoming and
South Dakota. On Jan. 20, 19IL he
was married to Natalie Turner of
Hardin at Broadus. Mont.
Mr. Ellis was a cattle buyer for
Jo.n Morrell and Company. Sioux
Falls, for the past 14 years and was
acthe in community affairs there
His activities brought him the
title of “Rodeo Man of the Month"
by International Rodeo Manage
ment organization in November of
1959 He was rodeo chairman for
the Sioux Empire fair for several
years
Surviving are his widow and a
son. Joseph, of Sioux Falls, and a
daughter. Mrs. Beverly Harris.

Abele accepts
post in Nebraska
The Rev. R Reinhold Abele an
nounced this week that he and his
family will leave Hardin soon after
the first of the year.
Mr Abele has accepted a position
as ‘minister of the Congregational
Church. United Church of Christ,
in Wisner. Nebr.. and is scheduled
to begin his duties there in Jan
uary.
He has been pas'.or of Christ
Evangelical and Reformed Church
in Hardin for more than three
years. During much of that time.
Mrs. Abele has used her training
as a speech therapist in a clinic
sponsored by the Hardin Kiwanis ’
club for those who suffer speech
handicaps
She said the speech therapy work
will be continued, with an out-of
town therapist spending a day or
two each month in Hardin, but full
details were not available this
week.
