Girls Who Counted Seven Stars.
Two western girls having heard that if
any.ne counted seven stars on seven con
secutive nights, and on the seventh night
also had a dream, the dream would surely
-"come to pass," were perplexed and hor
rified on comparing notes after the obser
vance and occurrence of everything pre
cisely in accordance with the rule to learn
that one of them was to be married to the
Emperor of New Jersey, and that the oth
er was to be made into wine jelley for a
picnic and run into moulds representing
Bunker Hill Monument and the Central
Park Obelisk.-Ilaper's IWeekly.

The other day as two well-known citi
zens were standing together in the corridor
of the postoffice one happened to notice
that a postal card held in the lingers of the
other was directed to the holder.
" \Why, how does this come?" was asked.
"l)o you write letters to yourself?"

"That's funny.
"Well, not so ver'y. See the other side."

When I reach home my wife hands it to
me with a sigh. I offer to stay at home
and stand the finle of 15, blut she won't
have it that way. 'Tihat's all, my friend
except that the same scheme is worked by
hundreds of others, and our poor deluded
wives haven't tumbled to the racket yet."

A Corean Dwarf.
We see by the 'Feanpo, that there is a
Corean diwarf measuring two feet and a
half in iheight. Ilis head is one foot long.
His body is about the same length, and his
legs measure five inches only. The length
of his feet is over a foot, and he is obliged
to crawl in and out of his house. The
Corean dwarf is 27 years of age, and is a
far more wonderful creature than Tom
Thumb.
A Good Many Men Feel That Way.
Hostetter McGinnis is a male flirt. He
was taken to task by Gilhooly, who said,
reproachfully:
"You have been courting all four of
those Longcofflin girls all summer, why
don't you marry one of them?"
"I'd do it Gilhooly, but I don't want to
do anything to forfeit the esteem of the

It is now time all roots were dug and
safely stored in the root house.
The protection of trees and shrubs
against mice and rabbits is of absolute
importance.
To break an acre of land with a plow
- cutting twelve inches the farmer walks a
fraction over eight miles.
The mulching to the strawberry bed
might he applied now, but it is not neces
sary to mulch the fruit trees until the
ground freezes.
Every farmer should prepare for winter.
All the work animals, the cow and the .
pigs should be provided with good warm
shelter and plenty of food.
Every Montausn farmer and ranchman
should devote a few days at this season of
the year in fixing up about his home in or
der to have it comfortable for winter.
The Montsna farmer will go a long dis
tance and try many devices before he
finds a cheaper and better fence than the J
common barbed wire fence.-Husband
