Surmis ing that his visit here was caused by busi ness relating to the Montana Central con struction work, an ITter-Momotaini repre sentative called at the company's head quarters, which have been established in room 12, in the Chambers block. Co!. Br',,ad water w;i engaged with N. C. Ray in lou,!ing over the maps of the railroad from here to Helena. He accommoda tingly accorded a few m.ments of his time to the reporter. "Yes," said he, "it is Montana Central business which brings me to Butte. I came over to advise and consult with Mr. Ray, who is in charge of our business here. Work will be begun on the Montana Cen tral at'once and pushed as fast as money can push it. Our progressuwnill depend almost entirely on the character of the rock in the big tunnel. That is the all important thing. We have already begun work at both ends of this tunnel and by the first of June we expect to be far enough in to determine the general char acter of the work. If the rock proves too obstinate we will have to put in an over head line. "We shall also begin work right away on the tunnel near Butte. But the big tunnel is the all important factor and will regulate all the other work. We shall also begin to break ground at once, as we expect to have all the grading done before the cold weather sets in again. We shall employ a large force of meh and, as I said before the work all along the line will be pushed as fast as money can push it. "You ask me to fix a date for the com pletion of the road between Butte and Helena? It is hard to do that at the pres ent time. When we are just 'sizing up' the difficulties that lay before us in the way of construction, it is no easy matter to predict how long it will take us to sur mount them. You may say, however, that we hope to be in Butte by the first of next May. We might be a month earlier er a month later, but I do not think our arrival will be outside of those limits." Col. Broadwater stated also that the Montana Central might go to Anaconda as soon as the line is completed. He pos itively denied, however, any intention on the part of the corporation of extending its line from the latter place to Philips burg. The colonel's stay in Butte will be short, and he will return to Helena in a day or two.-Inter-Mountain. Yotice of Final Entry.
