For Member of Congress- Major Martin -.aginnis of Lewis and Clarke. iThe Convention Adopts a Strong Platform---The Leaders Named, ANACONDA, Aug. 27.-[Special to the TRIBUNE.]-The convention has just ad journed until 1:80 p. m. after nominating Hon. Joseph K. Toole for governor, J. H. Conrad of Custer for lieutenant governor and Major Martin Maginnis for member of congress. The rest of thA work will be easy, but the result cannot be forecast now. The convention is boiling over with en thusiasm and the party is thoroughly united. It is likely that Marcus' Daly will be chairman of the state central committee, with an assistant chairman at Helena. NOMeINATED BY ACCLAMATION. The nominations have produced un bounded enthusiasm among the demo crata of Great Falls. Even republicans are glad that such true and tried friends of Great Fall? and all Cascade county have been placed on the winning ticket. The Great Falls democrats are con vinced that the ticket will sweep the state and will be of service to the county and judicial tickets. Appended are some opinions gathered at radom on the streets: H. Ringwald-It is a strong ticket. M. Henderson--That's a good ticket. A. E. Dickerman (rep.)--I guess they are strong men. Joe Jelica-The ticket is first class. C. Fullerton-They are a good strong team. Judge Bywater-They have made a good selection; we certainly shall win. W. M. Cockrill-They are good men. If we can't win with them we can't win with anybody. Judge Huy--The nominations are good so far. Judge Dyas-It is a strong ticket and will sweep the state. Toole and Magin ais are able, popular leaders. Theyhave never been beaten. J. K. Clark-It is first-rate. I wanted Toole and Maginnis at the head. Mr. O'Brien-There is a good man at the head. E. A. Ringwald-The candidates are strong friends of Cascade c'uonty. They are bound to win. M. Harris-Toole will run well in Hel ena, as well as elsewhere. SPRAY OF THE FALLS. (From Saturday's Doaly.) Mr. Barker, a prominent sheep raiser of Otter creek, is in town, making prep arations for his eastern trip. Thos. Geatier and John Beach, a prominent sheep man, came in the Ohoteau coach this morning. All the democratic delegates to the convention at Anaconda started to that place to help nominate our state dificers. The delegates to the democratic con vention at Anaconda from Benton and Chotean county passed through town this morning. Messrs. McVeigh and Phillips of Spok ane, Illlffe and Houston went toward Nethart on a fishing and hunting expedi tion this evening. The Great Falls delegates to the Ana conda convention left by the Helena train today. Mr. Jerry Collins went with them andwill send a full telegraphic report to the Thnuonu. Messrs. Howard Criss and Staples re turned Thursday for a fishing and hunt ing trip out to Tiger Butte. The party saw plenty of bear and deer signs and found plenty of grouse. H. N. Martin, of the wool firm of Harding, Martin & Caverly, come in from his ranches today. He will make a short trip to White Sulpher after which 'Mr. J. E. Williams has beei out with a mining expert to investigate some of his mining interests on Logging creek. lHe has made a thorough examination and is highly pleased with the prospects. Capt. A. Jensen, the handsome com mander of Co., A, went to the convention at Anaconda today and will stop at Hel ena on the way and see about the equip ment for the "boys." The Rolfe is now out on the road try ing to squeeze boodle for the campaign from the republican- candidates. Some vigilant committee men will see to it that the money is not wasted in that way. At the election last night Co. A selected Howard Crosby, first lieutenant, Claude M. Boardman, second lieutenant, and B. Whitten, second sergeant. Jack Kendall, Dwyer and Ed Zimmerman were elected corporals. C. S. Fell, the able and well-known edi tor of the Fergus County Argus, is in town on his way to, the Anaconda con vention. The county will be represented thereat by Messrs. Fell, Granville Stuart and C. J. MacNamara. A large load of camp supplies consist ing of tents, cooking outfits and supplies came in this morning and were sent out to the mouth of Otter creek in charge of Mr. Fletcher. This looks somethine like the railroad would ha ilt. Rev. Mr. Powers asii Frank Wilcox, secretary of the Cataract Mill company, returned yesterday from a visit to Highwood and Benton, Mr. Wilcox is making an estimate of the wheat crops of the country, and will visit the Belt and Judith Basin ranches next week. Cameron Gaourley and William Mack started from the smelter last evening at 6:48 on a running match to the city post office The stakes were $35 a side. Gourley and Mack were close together until near the school house when they separated. Mack unfortunately sprained his knee in a rut there and was unable to go further. Gourley who did not know of the mishap kept right on and ot to the postoficeo in 88 minutes from the time he started. e liad thus made the 4 e miles at the rate of 8 minutes 27 seconds per mile. He had had only four day's training. Mack who is a black smith had not trained at all and had been at work in the afternoon. Gourley's age is 28 and his weight 188 pounds. Mack is 45 and weighs 160. The contest might be deemed internatlonal for Gourley is Scotch and Mack (erman. Both are plucky, stalwart men who enjoyed thor oughly the contest which created much interest here and at the smelter. DUILINa , Aug. 20.-William O'Brien and James Gilhooley were today senten ced to two months and six weeks impris onment for holding meetings which had been proelaimed. On the expiration of the term they must give bonds to keep the peice for six months. In the event ofa refusal they are to undergo two months additional imprisonment. New Companies Formad. ITFLEA, Aug. 27.-The Fred Barrence Granite Ditch company has been incor porated. The place of business will be at Granite. The Keystone miming com pany has also been incorporated. The principal point of operations will be on indian creek, Jefferson county. Archdeaeon Farrar's Scheme. LoNDON, Aug: 26.-Archdeacon Farrar's proposed scheme to establish a mon atery order in the Church of England has at length taken definite shape. This con sists of a scheme for an organization which is to be called the Order of St. James. The plan has been submitted to and has received the tacit sympathy and approval of a number of the leaders in the church. Among these are included the Archbishop of Canterbury and the bishops of London, Winchester and Lincoln. The Ohoteau Ticket. BHNTON, Aug. 27.--The River Press says: The democratic county ticket is received everywhere with enthusiasm. KIn.EY, Aug. 20, 1889. Registeringis going on slowly. There were only 26 voters registered up to the 26th. Every one is busy harvesting. The wheat crop at IKibbey is fie, the yield in gobd and the qellty exoclent. Oais and barley are also a good average crop. The niraw is short but the quality of the grain is fine. We had a visit in this neighborhood last week from a veterinary surgeon. He. thot two horses at Joe Nason's that he laimed had glanders. It was hard on poor old Joe as he is not very well fixed financially, but if they had glanders they ehould be shot. Tiep-onAv. SPRAY OF THE FALLS. Lavoie and Jones are threshing at Junkin and Chichester's ranch today, Mr. Geo. Bickett, a prominent wool grower from Ming coulee, is in the city. Mr. John Green, from the "head of navigation," made a flying trip today to the "great future." Some new cases of fever are reported in town. The board of hnalth should in vestigate the matter. Mrs. Beason and Mrs. Boyd 'went on Saturday to make a 10 day's visit at J. W. Boston's on Smith river. Jas. and Frank Austin, from Choteau, passed through town this morning on their way to the state fair. Lord Brothers put in a large amount of new shelving last week and also received a large shipment of goods. S. Allin, St. Paul; P. M. Ringdale Crookston and J. H. Green, Benton, are registered at the Park today. Chas. Brewster from Deep creek was in town on Saturday and reports that he will thresh his grain crop today. . Ed. O'Reiley, formerly with M. Mat kin, went to Benton today, where he has accepted a position with J. H. Green. H. H. Gar and family have gone on a visit and hunting expedition to the Pie gan agency to be away about two weeks. On the coach for Maiden this morning we noticed S. N. Dickey and W. M. Blakely for Belt, and J. E. Redding for Cora. Another surveying outfit from the Montana Central will arrive tomorrow and proceed immediately to making thecross section survey. Pete Roach, one of our old-timers, went to San Francisco today where he expects to make his future home, Great Falls regrets'to lose such men: * Hon. A reliable report came this morning that Mr. Balling had struck very rich leoad of galena carbonate ore in the Car bonate mining district, near the summit of the main range of the Little Belt mountains, west of Nethart. The find is creating a big excitement. An accident occurred this morning at Capt. Couch's rianch by which a mani named Herb was severely injured. While swinging on a gate he slipped and fell upon hlis neck, resulting in eompletie paralysis. D)r. Longeway and Miss Gertrude Welch of Stnndbridge, near Montreal, Canada, were married in Galesburg, Ill., on Friday the 23d instant. Tre wedding took ptlace at the residence of the bride's aunt. l)r. Itowles, brought to the TRIBUNE sanctum today ia stalk of corn which is eight feet onpg and bears an ear, and a "mess" of . fltue roasting ears as were ever grown ano'whre. This corn was grown by Mr. iiavilla Strong on his ranch on Sun riveY and is of the variety known as "Squan " corn. The ears will average nine inches in length and the grain is sweet and tender. Mr. Rowles says there is quitd a good deal of corn grown in his neighborhood and that most of it will make a good crop this year. There is no necessity for us to eat eastern canned corn if noir ranchmen will tarke hnld of this matter. I Mr. James J. Campbell, one of the prominent stockmen of Otter creek, came in yester day. J. W. Hopkins, one of the stanch democrats of Deep creek, was in town yesterday. Chief Engineer Beckler of the Manito ba arrived this afternoon and went out to the scene of action on the Belt road. Passengers on the Maiden coach this morning where: W. H. Wait proved up on his Sand Coulee ranch yesterday and goes to Hel ena today to file on a homestead claim up near the mountains. J. C. Coles, designer of our water works, is in the city. He will inspect them in the interest of Chicago parties who purpose investing in the bonds. Mrs. Lieut. Cabaniss, (nee Patterson) was among Saturday's arrivals to this city. Duke of Kansas City, Mo., who has been visiting his sister above Choteau, on the Teton, started home this morning. He is well pleased with the country and especially with the prospects of Great Falls. Tom Stark forded the river at the iron bridge yesterday evening with 400 head of cattle which he had driven from Drummond, Deer Lodge county. He will take the animals to the Belt mount ains to winter. One of the newsboys who runs on the Montana Central between Great Falls and Butte is a lineal descendant of the once famous and still well remembered David Crockett. His name is George T. Jones. -River Press. Mr. Ross, special agent of the New York Life Insurance company, has just returned from a trip to White Sulphur and other points. He was accompanied by Mr. L. W.
