ANGUISH AND SORROWING. Wight Miners Blown to Piees--Hea.t repndlering Scenes at the Month of the Mine. IIAZrY.I.ON, Pa., July 17.-A terrible explosion is reported to have occurred in a mine near here this forenoon. Nine men are said to have been blown to pieces. Two hundred sticks of giant powder exploded in the midst of a gang of miners at Stockton colliery No. 8, and not enough of the men's bodies are left for identification. On account of the distance of Stockton colliery from the Man's breaker it has been oustomnry to distribute dynamite and other explo sives to the workmen at the bottom of the second shaft, as they appeared in the morning. It was Charles O'Donnell' duty to diatributo the dynamite and cape. The first men to go into the shaft today were drivers. They went into the stable to harneea their mules and while they were thus engaged the explosion took place. Charles Schuggert says he saw about a dozen miners standing about O'l)onnell receiving the powder a moment before the explosion. All were killed. The drivers wore hurled every way. Fearing that an explosion of gas had taken place and that a collapse of the entire mine was about to follow they waited for death as if paralyzed. In this posltton they were found by some miners from No. 7 who hurried through the subterranean passage. Headed by Sept. Rtoderick a corpse of miners desended into the mine and the work of recovering the bodies wan at once begun, but it war with difticulty. Fragments of human Ilesh were found some distance up the slope, clinging to rails and ties and sticking to the roof. while everywhere were bones and limbs. As the boxes containing the remains were hoisted to the surface women tore their hair and screams of agony rent the air. The names of the victims as far as known are: Charles O'Donnell, Andrew Jaboel, John Primbone, John Koehl, Anthony Mloravitz, John Krinchock, John Mole feski and John lirizzen. no ONwn IIST. epunties anld tlrikers Meet and Rkheot at EarH Olther.
