Predicts Light Damage
by ’Hoppers in 1943
ißozeman —KUR)—Grasshopper damage
to crops will bo much Tighter in Mon
tana during 1943 than during the
past few years, Dr. Harlow B.
Mills, state entomologist, said in
his annual report tot the governor.
He said a recent ogg survey indi
cated grasshopper infestation will
be spotted and tho least severe in
five years. Control work in 1943
will bo concentrated in Big Horn,
Yellowstone, Stillwater, Golden Val
ley and Musselshell counties.
Mills estimated grasshopper dam
age to crops during tho past year
amounted to more than St»l,soo,oo<>.
Approximately $817,000 worth of
farm products were saved by farm
ers’ control methods in 1942,, he
said.
(Dec. 15-31, 1922)
Plans are underway for the annual
community Christmas tree festival to
tbe held at the High School Saur
day evening. Dec. 23. In spite of
the fact that this has been a loan
year, the kiddies will be looked after,
jas usual. Women from the three
churches of Harlem will join to
gether to seo that the tree is trim
med and candy bags filled. Men
will make the rounds with the
4 ‘nose bag’* to provide tho treats.
A fine entertainment is being ar
ranged by tho grade school.
Owing to severe weather it has been
impossible to complete the water
works and the people of Harlem
will have to worry along with in
termittant service for a while longed.
Harvey McMichael, son of Mayor
McMichael, broke a bone in his left
arm just above tho wrist Wednesday
afternoon, while playing on the school
grounds.
In spite of extremely cold weather
Jack Clark is still running his auto
stago between here and Havre. This
is proving quite a convenience since
trains have been running so uncert
ainly. He had his first trouble
Friday evening when the magneto
on his engine went ibad at Chinook
and he had to lay up there for
the night. Passengers are finding
the trip comparative^ comforiable
with side curains on the car and
foot warmers provided.
Attorney J. L. Angst man and fam
ily have returned from Helena
where they visited relatives the past
few weeks. Mr. Angstman took his
examinations for the bar, while away,
passing them. successfully so he is
now a full-fledged lawyer and will
open offices here.
The worst blizzard in the history
of the Great Northern R. R. raged
on the western, slope of the Rockies
Sunday. Four feet of snow and
winds bordering on a hurricane isol
ated mountain towns. Trains were
belated by a snowslide near Java,
blocking the track for 21 hours.

SEASON’S GREETINGS
E. P. Ekegren, Inc. Harlem, Montana
Christmas, last year, was not an occasion for singing
Pee.ce on Earth, Good Will towards Men for the very hope
of all Christendom was momentarily scattered.
This Christmas, in all our hearts 'we find a New Hope has
been born; the Hope and the Vision of a Real Peace on Earth
and Good Will toward Men and Women of all Nations.
We believe that this will bring about a better underst ind
ing of Peace and something that is practical and lasting.
We sincerely wish that You and Yours will have a very
pleasant Christmas, regardless of any circumstances and we
hope that this coming year will bring to this world, Peace and
Good Will and to You a liberal measure of Happiness.
Thanking you, One and All, for all favors shown us
in the past and hoping to be able to serve you in the days
to come, we again wish you a
Very Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.
Sincerely,
E. P. EKEGREN Inc.

The ’lectric train that wasn’t there
Some things are hard to under
stand when you’re six. Long be
fore Christmas, Daddy explained
why there couldn’t be a new elec
tric train this year. But Jimmy
kept on hoping .. . maybe ...
somehow ... Santa Claus. .. .
Jimmy’s a good soldier. Hell
get along with his old wind-up
train that jumps the track. And
Daddy will tell him again how
the wonderful electric locomo
tive, with its light and whistle
—and all the shining cars—are
going into gun parts now*
by tho State Highway Commission,
Blaine county has 748 automobiles,
of which 451 are Fords. Overlands
I come next, with 55 in use in the
county. Buicks number 29. There
are 86 trucks and only one motor
cycle in tho count}’.

Notice to Truck Owners
Tho following is the information you
will have to furnish Io your county
Treasurer when you make application
for this years truck license:
The kind of operation, for hire,
private use, public use, etc.;type of
'business in which vehicle is chiefly
used; total mileage (estimated) mech
anical conditions and size of each
tire and tho residence of owner with
in city limits or in rural area. Also
the owners report the kind of vehicle
its horsepower, and what model, cap
acity in tonnage, size of body (inside
dimensions) capacity of tank and num
ber of axles.
(1225 1-1)
And maybe Daddy will add
that the same electricity which
drives tiny trains is also driv
ing the big machines that make
bombers and battleships. We
hope Daddy does mention it.
We’re proud of the part that
power plays in war production.
Every war plant has had
ample electric power when it
was needed. Millions of extra
kilowatts have been installed —
until today America has far
more dectric power than all our
Axis enemies combined!
