ASC Office People Attend State Meeting Continued improvement in ■ervice to farmers and ranch ers was the objective of a meet ing at Great Falls attended by representatives from the Blaine County Agricultural Stabiliza tion Service office this week. John Shelstad. county office manager, said that the work shop provided an opportunity for office managers and clerks from several counties to review procedures and discuss the ad ministration of ASC programs. In addition to the office man ager. Carol Seaman and Rozella Steinmetz attended the workshoo from this countv. Among the subjects receiving attention at the workshop were a change in the method of mak ing cost-share payments under the Agricultural Conservation Program to simplify and speed this work: the preparation and handling of price support appli- cation and disbursement papers so that much of the work can be done by electronic means at the new ASCS Data Processing Center in Kansas City, and the preparation of 19G3 applications for payment for persons parti cipating in the 19G3 wheat and feed grain diversion programs. A portion of the meeting was also devoted to office manage, ment, personnel responsibilities, and methods of increasing office efficiency. Allen, fieldman for this district, and program specialists from the State ASCS office in Bozeman. TURNER SOLDIER PARTICIPATES IN SWIFT STRIKE 111 ; Army pfc Gary W. Heilig, son ■ of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Heilig . of Turner, participated in Ex • ercise Swift Strike 111, a U. S. 1 Strike Command exercise in I Georgia and North and South Carolina, involving more than ■ 75,000 armed forces personnel. Swift Strike 111 pitted two task forces against each other in a four week mock war which ended Aug. IG, and included air borne maneuvers, long-distance airlifts, air-ground support mis sions and counter-guerrilla ope rations. Heilig is a member of the 513th Quartermaster Company at Fort Hood. Texas. He entered the army in De cember 19G0 and was last sta tioned at Fort Richardson, Al aska. CAN! - NOW!
